Wargames Factory sprues seem made for this use. In the comments is an excellent idea about using them with plants. Any other suggestions are welcome and encouraged.

Just one of the many designs:

How about metal equivalent of wooden pallets?

Or the outer braces of a multilevel tower?

Seems like trimming the center sprue trees out would make them look a lot less like what they are. Use some card or plasticard to build an interior box shape in that space and you'd have a pretty neat (and easy to make) scifi crate/shipping container.

Even just putting a top on it would improve it. (How many people are going to look at it from the side?) grin

You could make it into stacked fencing as well cut the sprues into four pieces and join them side by side. Look for a color sphere for the hole so it will look science ficiony.

Wrap them in fine wire so that they look like transformers and build an electric power sub-station

Nice idea. Put a piece of circuit board as the top lid -- the thing could be a giant computer.

A shimmery surface on one could be a transporter (could work laying flat or on its side as a step-through transporter). With some extra gizmos attached to the corners or sides, the transporter or computer look would be very convincing.

Hey, stick a picture in the frame and it could be a viewscreen, an . . an . . Interrociter!

Find some dowels or plastic tubes to go into the corner holes and they become stackable floors of a gantry, tower or guard station. In fact 4-6 of them could be linked that way, together with a big rocket or missile inside it, as though it was a transporatble SAM-type missile that fired from a crate.

Chunks of sprues, when set on their side and painted black (with some drybrushing), can create some creepy sci-fi corrdidors for games like Necromunda.
