Hi. I appreciate that Points Values are highly specific to the ruleset they are part of, one has to hope that the relative values would be correct and allow their use with other systems. On that basis has anyone tried using the FOW points values as a device to balance scenarios for non-FOW games ? Does the idea work ? Pete |

Most scenarios I've seen also list specific units (types) to be used. Just sub in the appropriate unit and hope for the best. |

It would depend on the rule system you wanted to use, and how close in mechanic and philosophy it is to FoW. Of the systems I'm most familiar with, I doubt the FoW point system would work with Crossfire or IABSM. |

Points values are just a way of generating a force for a game. If the points system used produces a believable ORBAT for the force then there is no reason why it shouldn't work in any other similar system at the same level of play. If by "balance" you mean that equal points should give each player an equal chance of winning, then I don't believe any points system can achieve that. |

Hi, many years ago we played a ww2 game with different point systems to flames of but like the organisation charts in fow so we repointed the fow charts for the other game and it worked to a greater or lesser extent. jon |

It could work as a rough check. Scenario says "Infantry company supported by platoon of Shermans, with Regimental Cannon platoon on call." Well, you can check just about any FoW book for the points total of that, and then assign OPFOR up to that point total. But with attacker/defender scenarios, the attacker should have at least 1.2x the points of the defender in total, usually 1.5x to 2x. |
