is there a free set of rules out there that would work with my old micro machine star trek ships? something simple.

earthad23 May 2012 10:41 p.m. PST

Full thrust cross dimensions?

they are all pretty good, I also recommend starmada or starmada fleet ops (very simple and my favourite) if you want to buy some rules.

I have a one page free set of rules for generic spacehips (Pz8 Space rules) in my website

Really simple and free: One Page Fleets – link

Not quite as simple but still free: Sunder the Stars – link

Handy list – star-ranger.com/WebGames.htm

Cool home made rules.

Phaser Lock would work, and is free.

Yea, I'd check out PL, with the link above.

The Full Thrust rules are worth checking out as well.

these give me a lot of options. which of these are good for small battles. like 2 on 2 or 3 on 3?

Broadsword24 May 2012 11:03 a.m. PST

chang1701 – How much micromanaging of ship resources is desired? And do you want individual systems on each ship being destroyed or just the overall combat effectiveness degraded as the ship takes damage?

ummmmm, i dont know. i have about 30, they are sitting there and it dawned on me i could game with them. Its that or i sell them and since i love gaming i figure id try that first. haha

I'm a Full Thrust fan boy, though I prefer half a dozen ships per side in a battle, I find two or three just fine.

I will say, if you want somewhat more finiky, you can get by with the free-to-download Federation Commander 'First Mission' rule set.

It's supposed to get you to buy the big box at, what, $60 USD? I own it, don't play it. But FC:FM allows you to dance with the Enterprise and a Klingon.

(PSSS, don't be afraid to use TOS ship games with TNG+ micromachines… I won't tell.)

If, on the other hand, you want to fly all those at once, I'd suggest GOBS or the free sample version of A Sky Full of Ships. At least, I think there's one still available.

wow, so many rules to read through. I'm waiting on being accepted to the group so i can see the Phaser Lock rules.

and sadly TheBeast I'm too much a of a trekkie purist to mis my TOS and TNG eras… haha :)

No, no, you don't have to mix the ships; I wouldn't, except for a bit of temporal mechanics mischief.

Phasers, disruptors, photon torpedoes, you'll see them in both. I'm just saying ignore what the rules designer sez the ships are.

Everybody who plays ignores SOMETHING. ;->=

Phaser lock doesn't deal with TNG ships. A Sky Full of ships, Starmada, ACTA and Full Thrust all do. I prefer Starmada, ACTA and ASFOS for my Trek gaming.

Thanks,

John

For the record, GOBS was designed with the original Enterprise as a baseline for a heavy cruiser, and includes races and factions which should be easily identifiable as to inspiration. The website also includes a "famous fleets" listing with predesigned ships for ST and SW, among others.

Another good set of rules at a very reasonable price are warcosm at $6.95 USD
