Based on the Newberry Award winning children's novel by Fred Gipson. So not exactly a Disney creation. |

Never saw 'Old Yeller' but something I have noticed is I'm inclined to cry more easily over sentimental stuff than when I was young. Also, and I don't know if it's connected, but my nerve isn't as good. I used to be quite cool even in very dangerous situations but now while my head still says "Lets do this" my body says "Boss! Oh boss! Maybe we should think about it". |

Pretty sure I did, but that was more than 30 years ago in school elementary school. I doubt teachers could even show it today without parents getting upset about their little darlings being traumatized for life. Seems like we saw this and the animated Watership Down several times in elementary school, no wonder I am so messed up. Japan has their own horrific story for kids. It's about having to kills some elephants during WWII. Completely screwed up generations of traumatized children. Thinking about this reminded me to order a copy in English for my wife to use with here Japanese history students. Tempted to get one for my brother's kids for Christmas, but he would kill me. link link If elephants don't mess up the kids they later show animated films like Barefoot Gin (aftermath of Hiroshima) and Graves of the Fireflies (children and the fire bombing of Kobe). The antiwar effort in Japan made some very interesting choices that would get most American teachers fire for showing children. Jeff |

True, but Japan and US ideas of propriety are radically different to begin with. |
