So, this poll about zombies went pretty well. A couple of people even played the game in the original post. Mikeland came up with this Star Trek zombie movie: Its five-year mission: to explore strange, new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before
That is, until a legion of zombies storms the building. Which leads to the question
what happens to zombies in a zero-atmosphere, zero-gravity environment? Do they freeze solid? Do they stop decaying (no anaerobic bacteria)? Do they just drift apart? Do they cook up real nice with no atmospheric protection from radiation? Or do they just keep rambling on? |

I'm guessing zombies aren't too worried about their DNA being broken as they're no longer alive, so radiation wouldn't much bother them. Decomp would likely slow. I suppose extremes of temperature could still freeze or boil them; even then they might "survive" in an inert state until some hapless crew hauled them in. |

I've long had the notion of combining Voyager and a zombie apocalypse. The ship's doctor works frantically to find a cure or at least a way of 'deactivating' the zombies taking over a hapless planet. He's safe because he doesn't smell like he's alive. Zombies in hard vac would freeze solid. Depending on what zombified them in the first place, they may or may not reactivate once thawed. |

Realistically, they probably freeze solid. But that's no fun! I think they float about gnawing at anything that comes close. Off topic (sort of) could Darth Vader turn into a zombie? |

If they are classic magical undead, probably nothing but a bit of freezer burn. If they are disease or infestation zombies that depend on some functional anatomy, they will suffer the same effects a living human would: explosive decompression, massive trauma, and organism death. If the thing that caused the zombification is itself vacuum resistant, the now useless corpses will still be dangerous as sources of reinfection. |

There's actually a book called "Night of the living Trekkies" which is quite a tidy read – about a zombie infestation at a star trek convention

Trek actually has a number of "zombie" episodes. The Borg certainly count. The D69 episode "Empok Nor" had a definite "zombie" feel to it, as it involved "revived" Cardassian soldiers left behind in stasis chambers to defend the place from scavengers (such as Chief O'Brien and his team). There's also an element with Garek being "taken over" by the some Cardassian booby trap. Voyager also had the Vidians, who harvested organs from other species to fight a debilitating plague, though the were intelligent and technologically more advance. The most "zombie" like episode was probably in ST: Enterprise, where they discover a seemingly derelict Vulcan ship in an area of space with reality-distorting anomalies. Investigating, they find that the Vulcan crew was attempting to coat the interior of the vessel with a protective coating— and then the demented Vulcan crew shows up, looking and behaving very zombie-like. Dr. Flox discovers that the principle compound in the coating has a neurologically debilitating affect on Vulcans, reducing them to a primal, psychotic state. Terror insures. (Not one of my favorite episodes— way to gimmicky.) |

"Zombies in hard vac would freeze solid" And they'd shatter really easy too. You could have a lot of fun shooting them apart like a game of Asteroids

If I still gamed 40k, sure, I'd game some zombies in a Imperial ship against a space crew. Not in zero gee though. |

@vojvoda, You need to do it! I ran a Star Wars game with Zombies at our Game Day at Ft. Meigs last year. Everyone loved it! Even converted some extra Storm Troopers into Zombies for when they turned! |

10 years after the Endor Holocaust link link New Republic Special Soldiers (SS) troops and several former Imperial Warlord missions returned to the site only to find those who hibernated for a decade or so (assuming that they can survive anoxia and poisoning by nitrogen oxides) had mutated into a blood lusting abomination bent on feeding off humanoid brains. The first mission to the moon reported contact with these mutants but none of the landing squadron personnel returned. Now a New Republic mission is planned to determine the fate of previous missions with orders to shoot to kill whatever life forms they find remaining. The former Imperial Warlords had designs of their own, capture these creatures and use them for their own devices. What will become of these cute little teddy bears? VR James Mattes |
