Hands-down one of the very best future weapons ever made. |

Did you hear that Ridley has the original screen writer back for the new script, and that the new protagonist will be female. :) |

I've always thought it looked ludicrous, but tastes vary. Doug |

It is indeed the genuine article! A Charter Arms Bulldog, with bits & pieces from the action of a Steyr-Mannlicher bolt-action rifle fixed to it. (Which is also where the idea for the double-set trigger came from.) They only made the one – the others seen in the movie are resin casts made from the 'hero prop'. You can tell them apart because the others have flat butt-plates. The resin casts were made before the buttplate of Ford's weapon was scalloped into a finger-groove at the actor's request. Don't mind me
I'm having a triviagasm. |

This reminds me of the story about Adam Savage's 13+ year quest to replicate the gun from Fifth Element. link Insane. |

Yeah, this is what he should have carried – a REAL weapon! |
Mako11 | 18 May 2012 2:33 p.m. PST |
I think it looks F'ugly, but that's just me. Jovian's pic is a bit more my style, but I suspect it is a bit unwieldy, and harder to conceal

Stupid question, but where the hell does the ammo go? There appears to be no cylinder or magazine well. Works just fine for target pistols, but sidearms intended for field use generally allow more than one shot at a time. |
Norman D Landings | 18 May 2012 3:42 p.m. PST |
Reality: There's a five-round swing-out cylinder, hidden under a custom-made cover panel. Canon: the weapon is not shown being loaded in the movie, so who knows how it's supposed to work? Some of the replica versions available feature semi-auto style clips protruding from the pistol grip. I've also seen the under-barrel assembly described as the 'magazine'
although this could be a reference to the Steyr-Mannlicher magazine used in its construction. |

If I had to go replicant hunting, I'd want one of these, in .44 mag:
A bit smaller than the .50 cal, with less kick, and a bit more concealable in comparison, but still powerful enough to get the job done. |

Kind of reminds me of the mid-sized Chiappa Rhinos:
The barrel lines-up with the bottom chamber in the cylinder rather than the top. |
