Hello,

I hoping you esteemed and knowledgable folks on this board can give me any information about the Battle of Thuong Duc, Vietnam, Sept. 1968. I have some, but much need more -- particularly context, VC Oob, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Deeter

This won't help, but my infantile sense of humor forces me to do this:

Try here for info. In addition to the A team, there was a unit of LLDB (Lực Lýợng Ðặc Biệt). There was also probably a CIDG unit, but my brief search didn't turn up anything about it.

Found a few references to CIDG at the camp and on patrols, the above link will get you started.

Go to digital materials on the left hand side, search function is the first drop down, then just hit the search bar and type in your query.

Might take some digging, but you'll find a lot of good stuff, topo map sheets, etc. Don't blame me if you become an addict to that website…

Thanks for the links. I've seen the first two. The third has just what I'm looking for!

I had talked to my father since Vietnam, but recently was named his heir. He didn't leave much beyond his service record and medals.

A LtCol at age 40, his asked for combat duty in Nam as an FOO and arrived at Thoung Duc in time for the battle during which he was awarded a bunch of medals including three DFCs and the Air Medal. All while flying as an umarmed spotter at low levels. After his tour, he resigned his commission in protest and retired.

The award citations are quite something, so I've decided to use my small inheritance to write his story. That's why I looking for context, etc.

Thanks again.

Sounds like a brave man … for many reasons …

Good luck on your quest, have you tried the numerous veterans association websites?

I shall certainly start posting the Special Forces link Maj Mike provided. Hopefully someone who was there at the time will respond.
