Something I've never heard of was what happened to the surviving Lancasters that were involved in the "bouncing bomb" dams raid.

Were they converted back to normal configuration, stored in case they were needed to carry out a similar, future raid, of scrapped? The last option I doubt personally, but I could be totally wrong of course.

The second link from fatman is the best,---the first is a concise squadron history.
In order to save you having to read the whole forum….

Surviving aircraft were kept in storage till the end of the war, partly in case more 'Upkeep' raids were planned.
At the end of the war, 3 of the modified aircraft were used to dispose of the unused Upkeep 'bouncing bombs' by dropping the ancient and dangerously deteriorated bombs into the Atlantic from the safe height of 10.000ft.

Good research there – well done!

Thanks everyone. :-)

I don't think I would have fancied being on the planes carrying those old Upkeeps into the Atlantic!!!

I dunno, probably beats disposing of unused mustard gas!
