Just a crazy idea that came to me last night . . . Would Fleck Stone, Flex Seal, Etc., on canvas *or other fabric) work to make a textured, durable, paintable and flexible playing surface? Hopefully one of those will result in a mat that could be rolled up for easy storage.
link flexsealspraycan.com What do you think? Perhaps with some "fabric hem weights" on the bottom side of the edges to help keep it flat? Dan |

I don't think FleckStone is flexible enough for that, but I haven't seen how/if it bonds to canvas. Would be really cool, though. |

History channel just did a special on insulation. One of the popular things today is a spray on. As the show was running, I wondered if it would be economical and safe to use the tan colored stuff? |

I made a bunch of road sections out of felt and textured with Fleckstone. They are pretty flexible. Mine roll up with no problem. Chuck |

The ad for flexseal says it is bendible. It only comes in black. Matthew |

Chuck, would you mind posting a picture of your roads? Cheers, Thomas |

@wrgmr1: Sure. These are the only pics I have at the moment. I'll see if I can find some more. Im working on some desert themed roads at the moment too. Those are 20mm tanks in the pics for a scale reference.

Never seen this paint before. Does anybody know who carries it in the US? |
wrgmr1 | 17 May 2012 2:48 p.m. PST |
Thanks very much for the photos Chuck! Nice looking roads, I'll have to try that. Pan Marek, I've seen these in Home Depot, Rona and Canadian Tire. Not that you will find a Canadian Tire in the U.S.! |

@Pan Marek: You can also find it at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. @wrgmr1: Thanks and your welcome. They really work well for my purposes. |

For the UK, I think this fella uses a Rust-oleum product (see 30 seconds into clip) for his textured paint spray: YouTube link Dan |

Wally World has a similar if not the same product (Wal-Mart) |

You can make the mat with regular paint and get very good results, either acrylic house paint rolled on (and you can get 'texture' by using artsy rollers) or spray paint – check out the Montana brand with its great range of flat colors. The latter gives great control. Not sure why you want to use the texture paint for a mat but give a try and see how it goes – get the cheapest small canvas you can find at Michael's type store and a can and spray away. |

Why canvas? It has water-repellent properties and may cause problems with adhesion. I would think that any sturdy fabric would do and be far less expensive as well. |

Doesn't have to be canvas. Could be any other thick and durable fabric. Dan |
