Dambusters raid, although that particular picture makes me think they're making for the thermal exhaust port on the Death Star. |

Wonder how Peter Jackson is going to handle that issue
name of dog, name of code word. I am for not changing history for the benefit of modern sensibilities, but if he must, at least go with "Niger". |

In the original movie, did they use the real dog's name? I've seen it twice and the first time, the dog was called "Sambo". Possibly an overdub? At the time I remember thinking "Oh my God", not knowing that his real name was worse. The second time I saw it, his name was "Darkie". *cringe* |

I'm pretty sure they did, a quick check on IMDB mentions that it was dubbed later on. David |

Guy Gibson, the Dambuster Squadron leader, was born in the same town as my father. My father was born 8 years after Mr.Gibson. |

I'm sure I remember the dog's name in the original was 'historically accurate'. I reckon enfant perdus is right and the version he saw was dubbed! |

There was a long, and painful discussion of this on Frothers. I am on the side of 'who cares if they change the dog's name? It's a movie, not a history book' But I was in the Minority. Pat |

link (Caution, may offend if you object to the word itself rather than it's use in a derogatory context which should, of course, be the real deciding factor). |
