I was thinking about the appearance of my tabletop terrain for this period. Like most wargamers my terrain has green deciduous trees and a spring/summer appearance.
How many battles in the WAS and SYW were fought on a snowy landscape and how many would have a winter/late Autumn look, i.e. bare trees or autumn colours?

I was debating on the merits of making a winter landscape cloth and perhaps trees to go with it.
I can think of Mollwitz and Leuthen with snow on the ground. Were there others?

Kesselsdorf, for sure.

Leuthen was fought in Winter

During the Seven Years War, there were a number of engagements in Germany during the winter period.

Check Kronoskaf.com for details.

IIRC The Alte Fritz ran a Leuthen game at the SYW Convention a year or two ago so there must be pictures on his site or elsewhere that someone could direct you to for an example.

Here is a picture of my Leuthen game at the 2010 SYW Assn. Convention:

The terrain pieces were made by Herb Gundt (buildings, roads and winter trees), while the winter mat came from The Terrain Guy.

Makes me cold just looking at it!!! Great representation of the Catholic church in the town; may ask who made it??

Herb Gundt made all of the terrain. I took a lot of pictures of the church during a visit to Leuthen and turned them over to Herb. He took it from there.
