Ok recently I have started back into painting miniatures, I prefer 28's mainly because at 44 I cannot see the smaller figures to well. How do you transport your figures so that they don't get all banged, chipped up? I would appreciate ideas advice and suggestions.

Most people either carry their figures in foam lined carrying cases of some sort, or they put the figures on metal bases and use boxes with their bottoms lined with magnetic sheet (or vice versa).

If you play a lot of games, constantly taking your minis out of foam will wear on the paint.

using magnetic storage with sufficiently strong magnets will prevent that.

Steel bases and storage cases lined with strip magnets.

I base my 28mm figures on 1 inch fender washers and use boxes with magnetic sheet on the bottom.

I base my figures on metal bases, and transport them in wine boxes with magnetic sheets.

sheet steel bases, magnetic sheets in Sterilite cases
(Walmart). Use only 3-drawer or fewer cases, else weight
becomes an issue.

Customized Plano 1401 large pistol cases. 100-180 figures in absolute comfort and security.

If you're worried about foam damaging your figs, just remember to varnish them properly.

I do the same as ordinarybass although my execution is different.

Somebody told me in the 80s that foam rubber can abrade paint jobs. I've never seen any evidence of that, even on figures I stored back then that were not varnished.

I did try magnetic transport for a while, and had nothing but problems. My car would hit a bump and stuff would pop loose and rattle around. Mind you this was before rare earth magnets were commonly available, but I magnetize my figures for movement trays and will still never go back to relying on it to protect figures in transport.

Four pistol plastic carry case. They are black plastic, light weight, have two levels of foam and have a carry handle. I have enough to transport figures to conventions and other peoples houses.

For storage, not transport, I use four / three drawer steel tool boxes with sliding draws. Got a bunch at Sears during one of their sales.

Single based I use pistol cases, multi based magnetic material.

I have had paint rub off in the pistol cases which is one of the reasons I use a future wash (especially on vehicles) now as that seems to be enough to protect it
