Has anybody done a compiled list of 15mm vehicles suitable for use in post-apocalyptic settings?

What I am most interested in are ramshackle vehicles, simple, rugged rigs, etc and not so much military vehicles. Conversion bait is also appreciated if suitable manufacturered kits are not available.

Thanks,

-Eli

I use HO scale for modified civilian vehicles. They look the part next to 15mm and can are relatively inexpensive.

Does anybody know of a good rail frame dune buggy in the scale.

yes eli i have a few hotwheels dune buggies that are perfect
got them in an off road set of 5 vehicles, maybe matchbox cabt remember

IIRC QRF does a special forces dune buggy type vehicle as well. In 15mm

Does anybody do separate wheels, grills and other car parts in 15mm?

Seems if you had those you could easily scratch build some good scavenged vehicles.

Eli I will have at least three vehicles ready for the first week of June, along with extra armor, seperate guns, wheels and some tracks.

All wheel armor plates, rams, and weapons will be available separate.

Mike,

Thanks for the heads-up. I have been flirting with a post-apocalyptic warbands project and think it might be time to move on that.

I would give Hot Wheels and Matchbox a look. Matchbox would be the better of the two since they have alot more off road type stuff. Use the Rebelmini turrets and away you go. I do wish someone would cast up some guns and such since there is a ton of stuff in the toy aisle. Can't wait to see the stuff from the Scene…..

Define suitable.

The selection of non-military vehicles is thin, very thin. But there is a good selection of Military Trucks, Jeeps and the like out there, with a little bit of card and stowage they can do the job. QRF, Rebel and Kurasan all have nice vehicles that will do as a base. Note Rebel sells weapons separately mostly mech and pintel mounted…

I have a nice little blog Walled Gardens which is all about building PA vehicles. Mostly wheeled, but I do wander.

Weapons tend to be the place where I get hung up. So the news from Thesceneuk is most welcome.

As for Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, some of the trucks are ok, but most of the cars are vastly out of scale (closer to 25mm than 15mm) Stan Johanssen has a nice set of photos link

deviantsaint Stan does just that.

HO cars are about dead on visually. But can be pricey.

I think Deviantsaint nailed it. Buy a Matchbox vehicle and you have 4 wheels, a grill, and possibly another useful bit or two for $1. USD Even if you throw away the body, they're a good source for spare parts. Not nearly as detailed as dedicated gaming miniatures, but it's not a bad way to squeak by in PA games.

Looking forward to seeing what Mike releases!

Would the Laffly 15 STOE work?

I sometimes get some really cheap vehicles from Dollar Tree and use the wheels, especially if they have multipacks.3 for a buck aint bad. You can always incorporate a car body into a barricade-I dont throw anything away.

Eli Arndt16 May 2012 6:51 a.m. PST

Deflatermouse – That Laffly looks like it was built in the PA.

I suppose when I said non-military, what I really meant was non-fighting vehicles. I imagine that there won't be much in the way of high maintenance military vehicles rolling around the PA, but the trucks, jeeps, etc likely will be.
