I saw a mention awhile back about a pulp adventure game played with minis on a map of the world. The poster claimed it would be a great framework for a pulp campaign. Can anyone tell me what the name of the game is? Yes, I have also asked on Boardgame geek.

There is Fortune and Glory, that uses minis on a map of the world.

Yep Fortune & Glory by Flying Frog Games.

Neat game, and the models are really nice, although a bit soft. Overall, all the game pieces have a nice quality feel to it. Lots of opportunities for some RPG campaign actions.

Game is not too bad itself. I've only got to play it once, in solo mode, so far. The nice thing is that it can be played in solo, co-op, team, and competitive play modes.

I like the look of this game, but the price??? And more importantly the shipping to the UK!!!

flooglestreet15 May 2012 6:26 p.m. PST

Thanks, thats the game. But the price? I'll have to go find the Lost Dutchmans mine, before the Hydra does and starts a reign of crime.

Fortune and Glory works exactly as advertised. Adventures are generated in all parts of the world. Once you've started a quest in the designated area you roll dice to overcome adversaries with your basic stats enhanced by equipment and weapons that you've collected by completing previous quests. The game becomes more interesting and complex when villains and Nazis are introduced. The components are top notch and I can see why the game isn't cheap. I'm not sorry that I asked for this game for christmas though, as it a solid system and probably as good a game as you can ask for to represent the pulp era. My only complaint is that art from "pulp magazines" and photos from 1930's/40's movies and serials should have been used rather than real actor/models as they don't look particularly heroic, handsome, beautiful or sexy. Some of them look like people that have been recruited from an average RPG group. They didn't enhance the game for me at all, in fact I try to ignore them as they actually distract me from my immersion in the WW II era. However, I believe the game can be modified by making our own character cards and using our own figures. I think that it might be fun to add Operator #5, The Spider or a characters of our own design to the game using art from the original "pulp magazines".

Good point Shadow. But it's my understanding that the rights to pulp art have been cornered, by an unpleasant gentleman of Oriental extraction. He does not love pulp, he is just in it for the money. Curare, black lotus, midnight black Duesenbergs, crocodiles, and the incense of obedience do not come cheap and he uses a lot of those things. I will settle for the cheaper price, knowing the Man Who Never Sleeps can sleep… or whatever he does at night, easily.

BTW your recommendation says a lot for the game. I assume I can run tabletop games against the adversaries, rather then roll dice.

I though that unless it depicts a specific character that the art is in the Public Domain. Can he possibly own *all* of it??

"BTW your recommendation says a lot for the game. I assume I can run tabletop games against the adversaries, rather then roll dice."

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Can you elaborate? And thanks for the compliment. :-)

YOW! MAN! Now *that's* what i'm talkin' about!!

Groups playing cooperatively could be Doc Savage and his crew or The Spider, Nita Van Sloan, Jackson and Ram Singh.

Thanks for the link!

Your playing piece and one of the game villains have a fight, could you play 45A or Larger then Life instead of doing the fight rounds?

The Shadow16 May 2012 8:06 p.m. PST

OK. I understand what you mean now.

The conflicts are resolved by dice rolls. Your hero has a number of dice to roll according to his character. Let's say it's Indy and he can roll five dice. The enemy will also have a number of dice to roll. Let's say it's a squad of Nazis that can roll three dice as a group. Both sides have a number of wounds that would knock them out. Let's say Indy has five and the Nazis have two. An unmodified roll of 4,5 or 6 inflicts a wound to either side. Indy rolls his five dice and scores three wounds. The Nazis roll and score two wounds. The Nazis are out and Indy now has two wounds. He has overcome the "Danger" and gets a number Fortune chips that vary with the enemy. He must now "camp" to remove his wounds or "press on" risking losing the next "Danger" or accumulating enough wounds to knock him out and also losing all of his Fortune chips.

Since every "enemy" card is a group or individual with stats as one entity, as in "Nazi Patrol – Dice 3 – Wounds 2", I don't see how you would separate this numberless group into individual enemies to have them fight a skirmish to overcome the "Danger" without looking over every card and deciding how many figures that group should have and what their individual stats would be. You could do it, but it would be a *lot* of work to adapt 45A to it.

flooglestreet03 Jun 2012 6:08 p.m. PST

The game came yesterday. Thanks everyone for finding it and the extra adventurers. I visited the Geek to see the rest of the cards (What is a video journalist doing in F&G?) I will be running this solo on my web site soon. There are a few things I want to change around, and I will be using the game to Generate Larger then Life (2 hour wargames) adventures. Look in on my site here link every so often.

flooglestreet – Be interested in how you get on with the game. I'm looking at buying it but the price tag is putting me off.

flooglestreet11 Jun 2012 11:59 a.m. PST

It is more expensive then it needs to be. There is an original music CD enclosed I probably won't listen to twice. Production values are very high. The miniatures are too tall for 28mm. I will let you know more as I get acquainted with the game Norrins, but bear in mind that I am using the game as a campaign to generate Larger then Life miniature adventures, and not as the game was intended to be played.
