I'm finally getting around to putting together a coupleof matched CRossfire forces and was wondering what other people have used for the suggested 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" bases for infantry ( and the half sized platoon commander bases).

Anything commercially available, either from hobby sources or the hardware store? Anything easy to construct at home with limited tools? Foamcore seems terribly thick to use for 15mm minis…

From what I've read, as long as you're consistent, it doesn't matter much what size or dimensions they are – I've had people suggest using FoW bases, as they're available, and if you ever want to try out another ruleset, you're good to go. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, though, FoW rectangles vice Crossfire squares.

Also, look into Litko's bases. They've got lots of options.

Locally, we have successfully used Peter Pig/RFCM-style 30x30 bases (e.g. MDF from ERM or Warbases or pre-cut plastic from PP)

There was a Crossfire game at Salute this year

The basing was probably the correct size – but looked so 'normal' to me I honestly didn't notice.

The usual MDF suppliers will almost certainly have the right size for you or do you a custom cut (just ask … they generally don't bite grin)

I to would suggest FOW bases. I seems to me that it would smart be able to use the figures both systems.

I just use 30x30 bases cut from artists mounting board.

Metal 30mm x 30mm or 1 3/16" x 1 3/16" are avaliable from Wargame Accessories. If you want to go that way.

LITKO, LITKO, LITKO!!!

Cutting Balsa wood bases was always the worst part of finishing a unit for me. I'd have units sitting around for weeks waiting to be based because I so dreaded the whole measuring and cutting drudgery involved. Discovering Litko made my wargaming life sooo much happier.

p.s. LITKO!

East Riding miniatures do a lot of pre-cut bases, cheap too.

Btw I also love Litko

artists mounting board.

By the sounds of it, that's the same thing I call matte board. I may have my terminology ker-fuffled up!

Yup. I think it's the same stuff.
It's what I use for bases too. Cheap, can be cut to any size and doesn't need to painted!

Yes they are the same thing, just one of the those transatlantic things, like white glue vs PVA.
