The Japanese had a variety of doll automatons in the 19th Century & every so often one of their model companies will release a kit to build one, usually a 'tumbling doll'. The founder of one of the early Japanese electrical companies – it may have been 'National', but I'm probably wrong – retired from running the company in the late 19th Century & set up a shop where he hand made doll automata. |

Very cool stuff there. Thanks, Armand. One minor irritation: the plural of 'automaton' is 'automata' – not 'automatons'. I know people use the latter all the time, but it bugs the hell out of me. Certainly, if one is using Victorian period vernacular, 'automata' is authentic. Sorry for being pedantic! All the Best. |

But 'automatons' is so much pulp-ier. =) |

Was it Peter the Great that had the mech geese that would walk, out in a line circle the fountain and come back inside? These are cool |
