What is your favorite charity?

and

Should TMP have an official charity?

Yesthatphil14 May 2012 11:50 a.m. PST

The Battlefields Trust
(saves, preserves, enhances, interprets battlefields, mostly UK)
The Royal British Legion
(UK help and welfare charity for serving and ex-service personnel)

They above are UK charities and I expect likeminded enthusiasts in other countries will have similar charities in their countires.

Plus I have some other arts/educational ones which are personal interests of mine.

But for a Poll Suggestion, I'd like to see the British Legion and the Battlefields Trust as options …

I'm surprised nobody has said the Red Cross. My apartment building burned down back in 1998, and we were left with nothing but our car and the clothes on our back. They put us up in a motel and gave us all kinds of vouchers at various stores. Somthing as inconsiquential as a pen or a pair of scissors or even a bottle of shampoo becomes a major deal when you no longer have it.

Salvation Army. Always seem to have a 'Sally' around when they are needed, both in War and in Peace.

And unlike a certain large international organisation they don't collect donations for a specific cause & then siphon off all the funds for other purposes, then carry on in the local media when caught out.

When I can adequately provide for my children's education I'll think hard about all this but for now any spare money goes to my sad retirement and their schooling.

Scorpio17 May 2012 5:38 a.m. PST

And to the second part of the question, no, I don't think the TMP should have an official charity. You'll never be able to pick one that won't be controversial with someone, and really, anyone who wants to give to a charity already can.

Given up for good17 May 2012 1:36 p.m. PST

When I have spare money it goes (in no order):

Salvation Army
Cancer Research
RNLI
Christian Aid

No to the TMP part
