Anyone know of a cheap source of pickup trucks that will work with 28mm minis?

CVS stores have a lot of vehicles, so probably have pickups too.

Not 100% sure on that, but I know they have sedans, police cars, sports cars, etc. They run about $6.00 USD, or so.

Check out your local chinese junk store (in Australia, Hot Dollar and similar).

Force of Arms in the UK does some Toyota pick up trucks but I'm not sure he is trading at the moment? Imprint Models in the UK also does pick up trucks.

Force of Arms isn't trading at the moment, but I do have his entire range in my on-line shop.

Warning! 1/64 is too small for 28mm, it's more like 20mm (matchbox car) size.

You need something in the range of 1/40 to 1/48. 1/43 is about right and is a farily common size. Dollar General is selling a line of Bburago cars for $2.50 USD each, the cheapest price I've seen for new 1/43 die cast. There's a Ford F150 in there. Here's what I posted over at the Post-Apoc forum.

…and I found these beauties!

Bburago (yes that's the spelling) "Street Fire" 1/43 scale cars for $2.50 USD a piece!

I bought one of most of what they had, though I skipped the sports cars (I think there was a corvete, porche, Viper and something else…).
I'll do a complete review with individual scale pics on my blog in a week or so.

Briefly, here's my first impressions.

Pros:
-Cheap! At 2.50, they're less than half the price of other cheap 1/43-1/32 die cast which tend to be $5 USD-$8 each.
-No pull back motors.
-Very nicely scaled for 28mm
-Quite a few "regular" cars. Not just sports cars like many lines.
Good paint jobs and details. Even brand logos are intact!

Cons:
-These are "box scale" cars. Like Matchbox, they are scaled to fit in a certain size box and thus are not all in scale to each other. The Mini and mustang are a bit big and the H3 and F150 are a touch small, though not by much.
-Except for the H3, The tires are pretty cheap looking. Several of these cars will be getting new wheels. Luckily I just bought a bunch from Inky!
- Some stickers for license plates.

For those on they hunt, they come in boxes like these:

I can't seem to find anything that actually has a scale on it the isn't 1/25 scale at the local stores (Walmart, Target). Where else would have 1/43 scale trucks?

Lots of train shops carry 1/43-1/35 scale toy cars. They typically go for 5-8 bucks.

Jewel Grocery often has kinsmart cars including vintage pickups often in the toy or card section. It's a bit large, but I got this guy there for about 6 bucks:

Toys R Us usually has some 1/48 trucks and 1/43 cars in their "fast lane" store brand packaging. When you open them up and look on the bottom of the cars, these usually end up being "New-Ray" toys, which is a good thing.

I'll also make the same offer to you that I made to folks over at the post-apoc wargames forum. For price+shipping+$1 (finders fee per car), I'll try and hunt down some bburago cars for you at nearby dollar generals.

The vintage Chevy in your photo is the type I am looking for. Actually, I would like 2, one Ford and one Chevy for a redneck game. I might take you up on your offer if I cannot find any around me. There is a real dearth of model RR and hobby shops in the Seattle area. Have to check Toy R Us.

AFAIK, Kinsmart only makes the vintage chevy. However, if you search for kinsmart pickup, they're pretty common online, though I'm not sure if Jewel still has them. Still, let me know if you end up needing me to have a look.
