How important is the coolness or blatant over the top appearance in selecting a gaming topic to you?
1. Ooh shiney!
2. Meh, who cares?
3. I select purely on intellectual interest and appeal.
4. I just go with the flow.
5. Who cares? (GET OFF MY LAWN!!! AND I MEAN NOW!!!!)

In a perfect world the esteemed editor will correct the topic to 'shiny'.

'coolness or blatant over the top appearance' makes no odds to me … historical suitability and ease of design are paramount.

I guess that's 3/. although that doesn't include the keyword 'historical' … You could say 'quality'.

You would ask a man who games the Paraguayan War if "over the top" appeals to him?

Other than that, I'm pretty much a #3 guy – the period has to have some intellectual appeal. Maybe a #6 option: "sometimes, but I can usually control it…usually"

I guess my first interest is collecting and painting figures. Once that is done I look for a set of rules that let me use them.

Oh, and 5

Shiney has taken between 5-10% of my anual income over the last 20+ years. Only in 2012 am I finally down to focusing on 2 periods.

Normally 3.

But I will go 2 or 5 on occasions.

No amount of shininess can ovecome a void of interest in the topic.
Witness the total lack of Carlist wars figures in my basement.

Bashytubits14 May 2012 8:04 p.m. PST

Oops my bad, it should be shiny.
