David. I do like Gorgon's figures – have just finished some of their Etruscans and you have done a good job on the Spartans. BTW, Aventine make some very nice cast spears with a good butt spike. Am looking forward to Gorgon's Persians – one day! Garry |

Didn't know about the Aventine spears. I may have to try them sometime. I assume these are pewter. The advantage mine have is that the steel wire doesn't bend, but a good stiff pewter spear seems like it could work as well. Thanks, David |

photocrinch Hi our spears are cast in lead alloy that is not as stiff as pewter. The disadvantage is that they have to be slightly thicker to compensate for this. They do bend but it takes quite some force and they can be straightened out again, this also helps prevent them snapping off the figures. As in all things miniatures related, it is all compromises in scale. Cheers keith Aventine Miniatures |

Hey Keith, Thanks for replying to this thread. It's the same deal with the plastic spears. They are a bit thick, but of course they also have a chance of breaking, whereas with metal ones you can at least just straighten them when they bend. I do like the rigidity of the steel wire spears, but the detail on yours is enough to tempt me. Next time I have some Greeks to paint I'll place an order. Thanks, David |
