Recently I was researching Milgamex's Ancient Warfare rules and came across reference to another Milgamex publication – their Tactical Ancient Armies lists. These were written as an alternative to the WRG Ancients lists of the time (1977). I bought a copy of the Milgamex lists and have done an overview of what to expect inside. Not that many of the books are available anyway, but just in case you want to know look at this blog entry:

Note that an overview of Milgamex Ancient Warfare rules, and replay using the rules, is coming in the next few weeks.

John,

Lucky you! I paid a bit more than you probably did to get a copy.

They sound reasonable to me.Some people loved the flexibility of the WRG lists, while others hated it.Then you had the other extreme of games like Tactica, where you had almost zero flexibility on what you chose.

My copy is about 30 years old. I liked the LOTR lists.

Thanks,

John

I have them and I still think their focus on units more than number of figures was the right one.

I had them back in the day.
Only played two or three games. Interessting, but the Ancients focus at the time was WRG tournaments.

My very first set of Army lists back in 1977. I also still have mine as well as the WRG 8 page army list which was its first to my knowledge.

I still have my copy as well. I thought it was a very reasonable system to ensure wargames armies that, while capapble of considerable variation, bore at least a reasonable resemblance to its historical counterpart in terms of the distribution of unit types.
