Gentlemen, Looking for some ideas on what vehicles are needed in 1:100 for Chechens and/or Russians. Currently almost finished sculpting the Tigr:
Thanks in advance ! Piotr |

The Chechens used whatever they could get. For Russians there are the BTR-80's mostly. However, QRF make those already. |

If you want to make vehicles for other Russian conflicts, try making the Otokar Cobra built in Turkey that was used by the Georgians in the 2008 Ossetia war.

Also, some more modern russian trucks and jeeps wouldn't hurt. UAZ-469 and UAZ-469B would be a good start –

Thought Peter Pig did one of those ? |
Eli Arndt | 06 May 2012 7:37 a.m. PST |
Yes, they do, but they are the only ones. Nothing wrong, in my book, with another company taking a crack at it. -Eli |
Black Bull | 06 May 2012 8:32 a.m. PST |
True and i think most of the stuff used is available from somewhere so maybe a case of doing it better. |
Eli Arndt | 06 May 2012 8:47 a.m. PST |
There is a huge gap in post-Cold War gear. 15mm lines tend to stop at the T-80BV. Nobody does a T-80U or T-90. Most of the more recent vehicle work has been done on Middle Eastern conflicts where the enemy equipment hadn't changed much. New American and British equipment has been done in 15mm to some degree. Ultramodern stuff is really only just beginning in 15mm. I think part of the reason is due to the fact that so many modern battles are fought at scales that can be done in 20mm or 28mm. 15mm is still considered, by many, to be the scale for larger scale fights and not a scale for street fighting. I think a really good example is that we are just now seeing modern Russians and Balkan militia despide a good two decades of fighting in that part of the world. -Eli |

Gentlemen, Thanks for the great ideas so far. Keep 'em coming :) UAZ-469: Actually, we have chosen this internally as more suitable for Chechens and with more uses than a Lada Niva. We could do a Niva in the future if we receive enough written threats [err
demands]
Otokar Cobra: Another personal favorite. I hope to have it ready to be available at the release of the Georgian armed forces. An indispensable vehicle for the 2008 Ossetia War. Polish Rosomak / Wolverine AFV: We have all the details and information on all the variants. In queue alongside Polish armed forces. Suitable for what-if scenarios like Russian sponsored Byelorussian invasion of Poland for example ;)

As an aside, some of the newer vehicles like the Cobra and Rosomak are ideal for people looking for lesser known vehicles for near future or hard science fiction forces. This means crossover sales! -Eli |
Black Bull | 06 May 2012 9:32 a.m. PST |
bottom one look pretty can see the Sci-Fi mob getting some of those |

How about a Zil truck or a KaMaz |
Eli Arndt | 06 May 2012 9:44 a.m. PST |
Eastern euro civilian vehicles would be good for street dressing and technicals. -Eli |

Cars and trucks mostly. Different sorts would be nice. Trucks could be pickups, SUVs, delivery, vans, etc.. -Eli |

I must be seriously out of date; I thought Belarus (sorry, I pronounce it Bye-lo-roos, at least) would be more interesting in invading in the other direction. ;->= Must say, that Cobra does look sweet. Doug |
Eli Arndt | 06 May 2012 10:53 a.m. PST |
I know that my Alcovian imagi-nation forces went with imported/licensed French VBLs in the 90s but will invest in Kobras once they are available. -Eli |
GeoffQRF | 06 May 2012 11:23 a.m. PST |
For that sort of period I'm seeing mostly T-72s (with and without ERA, both older and newer Kontakt), BTR80 and 80A, BMDs, Hips and Hinds, nothing really 'cutting edge' being deployed.
That one is intriguing :-) |
Eli Arndt | 06 May 2012 11:28 a.m. PST |
Looks kinda like a PT-76B with improv armor added.
-Eli |
Lobsterback | 06 May 2012 12:49 p.m. PST |
GeoffQRF, That is a PT76B with improvised armor. PT76 is still in use with some units in the recce elements and the Russian Maritime Infantry. I have to admit I love the BTR wheel added the the rear of the hull though. If it makes the crew feel good
.. |
Eli Arndt | 06 May 2012 1:10 p.m. PST |
I find it curious that the BMP-3 seems to share more in common with the PT-76B, at least superficially.
-Eli |
GeoffQRF | 06 May 2012 2:17 p.m. PST |
Sorry, yes, did recognise it, was just an interesting little beast to see still. Can't imagine what they are going to do with a BTR tyre
oh, no, hold on, swap it with a BTR crew for something :-) |
Aapsych20 | 06 May 2012 2:57 p.m. PST |
Not surprising at all. BMP-3 is derived from an amphibious light tank prototype, Object 685. |

Re: civilian vehicles, Chechens made great use of black market & stolen vehicles from the west (every Chechen General was said to be driving a mercedes at 1 point during the first war!). If you could make a mx of Russian and western civilian cars circa 1995-2005 that would be super useful! Fyi, Tigr is only available after 2005 (ie. 2nd Chechen War). |

In any case, I think it's safe to say that modern wargaming is a growing part of the hobby and that any vehicles and troops, save for the most obscure, would be happily received. Even those vehicles that may not have seen limited service – T-90s, BMP-3, Chinese armor – would still have a place with folks wanting to play out what-if conflicts. -Eli |
GeoffQRF | 07 May 2012 11:20 a.m. PST |
Actually its the most obscure that seem to be most happily received. Unfortunately usually not in most depth of sales, so rarely justify the origination cost. You are right about 'what if' though, we have sold a lot of BMP-3 and things like AMX-40. |
Eli Arndt | 07 May 2012 11:25 a.m. PST |
Yeah, obscure will always be happily received on novelty alone. I can also see how sales would be slim though as a lot of folks won't buy it if it never saw light of day. It's like WW2 "Paper Panzers". there are always guys chomping to buy some but a lot more mainstream gamers who won't touch them. On that note though, I'll usually pay a bit more for obscure items, myself. -Eli |

Anybody know of a similar type of model in 15mm?, would like to use the turret in a coversion I'm working on, cheers |
Johny Boy | 26 May 2012 7:43 a.m. PST |
I really like the cromwell model, but the warning light appears to go red once you open up some of the warning threads that crop up concerng dealing with this company. I don't want to bad mouth a company before having had any dealings with them, but there do seem to be a lot of unhappy customers out there after dealing with Cromwell models. Anybody out there vouch for them, I was wondering about the possibility of buying a couple of the turrets separately as they are just what I'm after. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 03 Oct 2012 1:09 p.m. PST |
Piotr, did you ever move forward with either the Tigr or the Rossomak? |
Moqawama | 03 Oct 2012 11:22 p.m. PST |
I think that given the 'largish' trend in 15mm miniatures 1:87 vehicles work much better with them than 1:100 ones, but I am prepared to be the only one harboring this thought. |
