Since the CSS Georgia is a federally protected wreck of historic significance, a widening/deepening project in the Savannah River cannot proceed without saving the wreck. link Rick |

I had the good fortune, several years ago, to visit the CSS NEUSE, and was the only visitor. There were two historians tending the site, and one took me to it and spent half an hour describing exactly how it was built, etc. Fascinating, and undoubtedly worth keeping up with as they raise and recover what is there. link If anyone has a chance to visit the NEUSE, take it; it is an exceedingly well done exhibit. |

And if you get to the Neuse, go a little farther East to Plymouth, NC where they have a working almost full scale Albemarle as well as an excellent little museum about the battle for Plymouth and Cushing's attack and sinking of the original CSS Albemarle. How is that for a run on sentence? |
