Callaghan was Labour (socialist for US TMP'ers) and Thatcher was supposed to be a Tory (Conservative, right-wing, 'hawkish').Churchill must have turned in his grave! Ain't necessarily so, Jim Callaghan was a former naval officer with combat experience. He knew when to send a clear signal. I am now taking bets on the over/under for DH residence from this thread. Well, yer man may get a double stretch following his group attack on New Zealanders. $500,000 USD wouldn't be enough though, I need at least $1,000,000 USD to get a 10 year investment visa. |

Wow Geoff, thats what I call a 'Quick Response'! (D'ye see what I did there?) Figs look great, some really fantastic poses
Now then, on the basis that you can't ever please wargamers, even if you post pics of unfinished greens 10 mins after they hint
.I notice most of these are in berets, which is great BTW, but will you also be doing some in tin lids? |

If you payed enough English people half a million a head to move to the Falklands- it could be defended forever with ease. |

Nope I am telling you it did not happen that way ------------ it certainly happened that way in Chile and Argentina and Peru (were there US advisors there too?)- there's a bit of a different between what you teach on a course and what goes on when you are not there – they're hardly likely to start torturing and killing people when the foreign advisors are there. Anyone who's even been in law enforcement etc in in a Western democracy knows how big the gap is between what it taught on courses and what happens on the street. |

The US military trains lots of countries on lots of stuff. The favorite whipping boy is the "School of the Americas." The overwhelming majority of trainees at SOA don't even learn combat related skills. They learn such war-like skills as logistics management and diesel engine maintenance. I personally went through Gunners' Mate 'A' School in Great Lakes with a few dozen Aussies and Germans there attending training on the Mk. 13 GMLS or Mk. 42 gun. There were two Greeks in my 'C' school class on the Mk. 75 gun. People who buy our gear often go to our schools. |

I should point out that I'm not accusing you of teaching Latin American armies the techniques of torture or being complicit in war crimes. I doubt you were even in El Salvador in 1981 for instance. That is correct I think it was 84/85 time frame I was on the exchange with Comando Especial Anti-Terrorista (CEAT). I would have to check my DD-214 to be sure. I do not dispute that some forces that at one time or another were involved in war crimes but they were not trained that way by U.S. Forces, or Para-Military such as Ground Branch etc. Here is an interesting story about one of the deployments to El Salvador. ddiekman.tripod.com/id69.html And to be fair here is something from WIKIlinks: link VR James Mattes
