Other than Rebel Minis, please remind me who else makes 15mm SciFi gunships?

Thanks a bunch!

Khurasan has a couple, and probably a couple more in the works. Here's my fave:

That Old Crow gunship is giving me OV-10 vibes. Needs a twinned tail.

I've been meaning to finish of my gunship/dropship that I started. It's a repainted Star Wars minirig toy. Pics at the bottom of this post on my blog… link
I've only just got round to watching Avatar for the first time this week so I really need a gunship on the table now!!

Thanks. I had forgotten all about the GZG gunship. I thought Khurasan had a Doe Gunship ready, but all I could find was a work-in-progress note and no picture.

LordNth04 May 2012 11:47 a.m. PST

This summer will see McFairlane's 1/100th scale HALO sets. One will be in there.

Khurasan also hinted at acquiring other VTOL support/gunship designs. (isn't his new advance alien bug line have a grav tank/gunship??)

tberry740304 May 2012 11:52 a.m. PST

The GZG gunship always gives me the impression of:

"Honest Captain, we was just flyin' around and the cockpit broke off!" grin

The Doe will be coming soon based on when I get the painting casting and then when it gets painted. The Stikk Odonate gunship will be available as soon as the Stilkks work their way to the top of the release queue. Coming (relatively) soon also will be the Kestrel light VTOL, designed by Mike Lovejoy. It's being cast nowish. wink

I guess you could use the Soriog Crotalus as a gunship, but it's designed to be more of an alien grav tank--then again, what's a VTOL and what's a grav tank really? grin

khurasanminiatures04 May 2012 2:22 p.m. PST

Painting samples of the following were shipped to me today:

Doe gunship (and what a long, strange trip it's been too)
Federal medium tank (both tracked and first-gen grav)
Federal heavy APC (ditto)
28mm Polecat

By a happy accident the metal caster sent me the metal pieces for the tank and APC today as well. (I've had the metal pieces for the Doe for months.)

So now all I've got to do is get them painted!

McWong7304 May 2012 2:46 p.m. PST

Hell, I hope payday comes before you painter is finished!

ski206004 May 2012 2:53 p.m. PST

Oh hell yes! I've been waiting for 3 out of those 4 to go up for sale!

Some simple 2 or 3 color camo schemes and voila! 4 million orders! (well, maybe not 4 million, but I'm sure a bunch).

Glad I hadn't spent all my paypal balance just yet!

EvinW8905 May 2012 3:23 a.m. PST

O boy, I need that Doe! I have all the basics for my Neo-Soviet army, now it's on to the special stuff.

Splod8905 May 2012 9:08 a.m. PST

I do love the Old Crow gunship but it looks too front heavy and a little short on the wingspan. I see a project in the works.

The Bebop05 May 2012 11:29 a.m. PST

The Old Crow gunship looks good when you just paint the front windows of the cockpit and leave the rest of the canopy the same as the fuselage. Really changes the look and gives it a bit more balance imo.

Mutant Q05 May 2012 3:21 p.m. PST

Personally, I'd like to see more wingless, "mini-van-with-vectored-thrust-engines" aerodynes myself. For instance:

And my personal fav;

Moqawama05 May 2012 3:48 p.m. PST

Mutant Q, I remember those flying vans!

They are from the R. Talsorian's CYBERPUNK RPG, aren't they?

Boy, that game had such great art! Most of it from Italian illustrators Parente and Montanini, if I remember well.

Mutant Q05 May 2012 4:10 p.m. PST

@Artbraune: Ah! Thank you.

@Moqawama: Correct! At least that's what Google images tells me.

The third, is from Erma Felna EDF, a "furry" hard scifi comic book series from the 80s.

Etranger05 May 2012 4:46 p.m. PST

Mutant Q – GZG have some hover vans in that style, & come to think of it so do Combat Wombat. I also have a couple of the ex-GZG 25mm versions which make great 15mm dropships (IMHO).

Brigade Models make this 'flyer'. They've also got the larger Athena dropship which is lovely. Mine not built yet! link

Eli Arndt05 May 2012 5:53 p.m. PST

Erma Felna EDF had great mechanical designs overall. That particular design was a modular design that could be comfigured to gunship, troop carrier, utility, and even an aerial support sort of "mini-Spectre" sort of craft.

Ravenstar05 May 2012 6:04 p.m. PST

Ive got a few larger ones coming out but it wont be untill the end of this month or 1st of next. so keep an eye out.

Mutant Q05 May 2012 6:06 p.m. PST

Eli:

We need one of the 15mm sci-fi figure producers to make a line of anthropomorphic animal troops including a force of fascist rabbits!

Eli Arndt05 May 2012 7:19 p.m. PST

If you are not set on anthro-animals, some of the GZG ranges are really good stand-ins for the EF-EDF troops.

I'd love to see some of the tanks, light vehicles and aerodynes make it in, even if they were just close wannabes.

I did have a friend do up a 3D model of the aerodyne

Moqawama06 May 2012 3:24 a.m. PST

Etranger,

does anyone still produce that flying van after GZG dropped it????

Etranger06 May 2012 3:43 a.m. PST

Daemonscape link have picked up the range, although I got mine from Eureka. Daemonscape have some other interesting options although to date I haven't ordered from them.

I picked some cheap plastic squirt guns at a chemists (Walgreens) for making spaceships, and noticed one of them had a bit of 'copter gunship profile.

picture

Check out the upside down ones. I was originally thinking of putting the rotor shaft out the water intake, but will probably try for a thruster version.

Warning: Seriously brittle/weak plastic. Will spread cracks like anything. I made the mistake of cutting with an old (semi-dull) razor saw, and pressed TOO hard.

Doug

PS I found some cheap water guns in the Target dollar section that will be about right for 15mm pulp space ships ala original Buck Rogers, but will also fly for War Rocket, methinks.

Eli Arndt06 May 2012 10:07 a.m. PST

I thought I was the only one looking at water guns for scifi. It's not for a gunship, but I have a broken Super Soaker that is going to be modelled up as a military corvette.

-Eli

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP06 May 2012 11:20 a.m. PST

Heck, as I said, I've been looking at them for space bricks, groppo gunships, and even some for bio-ships. As long as they're cheap. ;->=

Haven't seen S-S's that work for me, but I just may need to squint a bit more. There are plenty for cheap at thrift stores.

Doug

Edit: Come to think of it, does anyone use the Final Fantasy ship? I think it's more 6-10mm, but I've heard of folks playing 15mm with it.

Eli Arndt06 May 2012 11:23 a.m. PST

It'll take some cutting and some greeblies, but it should work. Still collecting bits but it will look cool as a centerpiece to a spaceport battle.

Marauder06 May 2012 8:20 p.m. PST

I'd love to see something "similar to" the Quinjet from the Avengers movie in 15mm.
That is one sweet looking ride and has plenty of scope for adding extra firepower to beyond the cannon

(Major Disaster)06 May 2012 10:17 p.m. PST

@Marauder
Why not mod/convert the one put out by Hasbro?

picture

Moqawama06 May 2012 11:17 p.m. PST

How large is that toy?

Cacique Caribe06 May 2012 11:24 p.m. PST

That Avengers Hasbro Quinjet looks huge:

Naaaaahhh, too big, albeit definitely an option for the 28-30mm crowd.

We may still hope they'll release a smaller version for poorer children.

:-/

Johny Boy07 May 2012 7:01 a.m. PST

Bought a couple of these from model zone for 3.00 each, i'm going to chop them around a bit, take away the props, remove the outer wing and add landing skids and rear loading hatch as well as reduce the size of the canopy area and i'm hoping we will have a heavily armed ground attack 15mm dropship.

These will be providing VTOL support until the Doe's arrive

Cheers Jon

Eli Arndt07 May 2012 7:10 a.m. PST

I have often looked at the Bronco for dropship construction. It's such a neat looking plane and despite being aged now, it has a pretty futuristic sci fi look about it. Probably because iti s so different from other planses.

-Eli

Farstar07 May 2012 9:17 a.m. PST

And the Bronco (aka the OV-10 I mentioned up-topic) has seen use as a drop"ship".
