With the movie coming out (or is already out in certain parts of the word…) there has been some interest in playing a Marvel Superhero game again from my gaming group.

Which leads me to:
Who is your favorite Marvel comic book Avenger?

jdeleonardis01 May 2012 1:42 p.m. PST

Hawkeye was always my favorite.

Steed and Peel.

Oh, sorry, you said Marvel comic book …

Pictors Studio01 May 2012 1:58 p.m. PST

I'm going to say Captain America as he is the tradition Avenger that I most often read back in the day. There are probably characters that were briefly with the Avengers that I like more but when I think of classic Avengers, I'd give the nod to Cap.

Of course it really depnds on who is writing/drawing them. :)

Tom Reed01 May 2012 2:04 p.m. PST

For me it's a tie between Iron Man and Captain America.

richarDISNEY01 May 2012 2:21 p.m. PST

I always loved the 'give and take' repartee of Hawkeye and Mockingbird… (West Coast Avengers, I know, I know…)

Steed and Peel.
I knew THAT was coming… wink

Captain America. Hard to make interesting in his own book sometimes, but he is the soul of the Avengers.

After Cap, Hawkeye of course, the most skilled of them all and the biggest wisecracker.

Remember the time in Immortus' Caverns of Time when Baron Zemo pasted Hawkeye to the floor and left him there and 2 issues later, Hawkeye got his bow onto his feet, pulled the arrow back with his teeth then shot the lever that freed the other imprisoned Avengers?

Or when the Collector had collected all but a few of the Avengers and they found his orbiting dimensional portal and teleported in by surpise but he took all of them out … except Hawkeye. He said "well Archer, I expect you will surrender" and Hawkeye said "no way, when it comes to skill I'm the best there is" and chased the Collector all over his own space station and finally nailed him.

Iron Man for me

Warmaster Horus01 May 2012 3:34 p.m. PST

I always dug the George Perez drawn Avengers. The Vision and Captain America being among my faves. I DETESTED any inclusion of Spider Man!

That being said, I always liked the fact that the Avengers were never a "Powerhouse" group. They were a more cerebral group with an ability to "stomp" somebody when they needed to.

Thor for me, although I also liked The Vision. Not in the original Avengers but I think he was on the team later in the series.

No clear fave, but I was always drawn (no pun intended) to the "supporting members", like Falcon, Wasp, Yellowjacket and Vision.

StarfuryXL501 May 2012 6:33 p.m. PST

Mrs. Peel.

Orange you glad he said that? How zesty!

KarlBergman01 May 2012 7:31 p.m. PST

Hercules was my favorite.

J Womack 9401 May 2012 7:34 p.m. PST

I like Hawkeye a lot, because he doesn't really have any superpowers, just a whole lot of skill (and some cool arrows).

Cap is #2. He had the Super Soldier Serum, so he got special powers out of it, but other than that it was all training.

Iron Man? No. All the suit, really. I mean, Stark is a super genius, but its all the suit.

Thor? Please! He's the freaking God of thunder. Literally, a GOD.

Black Widow is good, but she's also got the eye candy factor. I prefer the wisecracks in a hero.

galvinm01 May 2012 8:05 p.m. PST

The Captain.

If I see one of his books in the store, I will buy it. Just for old times sake. Have almost the whole collection somewhere around here.

McWong7301 May 2012 9:06 p.m. PST

Never liked the Avengers as comic books (Xmen all the way for me) but in regards to the film it has to be the Hulk.

plutarch 6402 May 2012 3:01 a.m. PST

Hawkeye, and I had completely forgotten about him until the new movie came out.

Warmaster Horus, I agree Spider-Man never really fit the old style Avengers, but I have to say in recent years with the New Avengers storyline, the team has somewhat become a combination of the Avengers and the old Defenders title, and Spider-Man fits right in. His experience as a superhero really shows, and in particular his wisecracks really help the dialogue and move the story.

Example: The New Avengers are trying to decide who is the mysterious attacker trying to steal the Sorceror Supreme's Eye of Agamotto. Doctor Strange, Daimon Hellstrom (Son of Satan) and Brother Voodoo (the new Sorceror Supreme) are stumped, running through the possible candidates. Spider-Man: "So who is Agamotto anyway? Is this really his eye?" answer: "One of the Vishanti and yes". Spider-Man, joking: "Is it possible he just wants his Eye back? I mean, I would." Stunned silence ensues as the magicians realize that's exactly what is going on.
