Excellent; I've actually got a bunch that I'm planning on doing as Bavarians, but need to sort out uniform references, so that's welcome inspiration…. :-)

As I mentioned on your blog – beautiful painting – you've done the figures justice. Best, Dean

Those came out very nicely. Thanks, Cardinal. I've been looking out for pictures of these boys painted up.

Dom , I use the booklets brought out by Pat Condrey orginally by August Kuhn..I don't know if they are available any more…I have had mine for more than 20years now ..might try some Cologneers next

Cardinal Hawkwood30 Apr 2012 5:40 a.m. PST

I do not trust Uniformolgy one little bit..and they still owe me money..

Thanks Cardinal – OOP but they do occasionally pop up. I'm thinking of maybe biting the bullet and getting the Robert Hall plates from the Pike & Shot Society – a little expensive, but should more than do the job. I seem to recall there were also some plates (I remember dragoons in particular, but think there were others) in early issues of WI, which I should have somewhere, as I picked up the CDs when they did those.

I've got about 7 boxes of these I will soon start painting. Not sure if I want to paint them up as an Historical army, (Brits, French, etc) or use them for an Imagi-Nation.
Nice work.
Cheers

good one Dom..look forward to seeing your s when you get them done..surprisingly easy to paint..these are sort of painted in my economy mode..Teh Bvarians were done in around 8-10 hours….the Scots got eyes but I am not sure I Iwill follow that path with the rest of these.
.I fear the cavalry maybe a bit more of a challenge, I have dug out my pyrograuve, from my hitsorex days (better left unspoken of) and found that using sprue I have made some very big wigs and even bigger plumes..

CorporalTrim30 Apr 2012 8:23 a.m. PST

Good looking units there, Chris. I particularly like the Bavarians. And great flags.

Diadochoi30 Apr 2012 8:37 a.m. PST

Very nice. I am currently painting some HRE and Bavarians and these are nice inspiration of what to aim for.

Fireymonkeyboy30 Apr 2012 1:25 p.m. PST

These are terrific. I'm less familiar with the WSS – how much uniform variation was there, and how much scope for variation can you get with this set?

FMB

Cardinal Hawkwood30 Apr 2012 1:44 p.m. PST

Fmb..I am a bit of a uniform nazi…I bough these for the hats and bits and pices ,I had been very underwhelmed by all the pics I had seen up to then..I brought them home and had them lying around . opened them up and..well some things you have to live with///French and Bavarians tied the stock at the back..so that is an error that I had to over come.. I am not sure what you mean by uniform variation..variatipn from each other? not a lot, variation from other periodss?,
CT, those Maverik flags could be made for this range..
all over , they are nice, simple to put together and paint up well..theyaren't foundry, or Front Rank but to start out, and bulk out things they are the biz…I suppose my final verdict is…"pleasant to work with, mostly sort of accurate.."
I did some modifying..turmed the odd pike/standard shaft up side down, fiddled with the sah..actually used the cravat from the standard to make a beter sash end..that sort of thing..

Cardinal Hawkwood30 Apr 2012 1:46 p.m. PST

Trailape, go to Maverick, get some of their flags for the lesser known states , paint em up and they can be both

trailape30 Apr 2012 2:06 p.m. PST

I have already got Stuart to make my inagi-nation flags. You can see some here:
link
Problem is I'd need to re-jig my uniforms for my entire I-Nation as at present they are wearing 7YW style uniforms, not WSS style.

Sparker30 Apr 2012 3:21 p.m. PST

Proper job! You have certainly brought out the best in these figures….

Cardinal Hawkwood30 Apr 2012 6:22 p.m. PST

thanks Sparks.. See what you mean Trailape..well a whole new period!!!

French Wargame Holidays30 Apr 2012 6:57 p.m. PST

nice job, they have came out nice, they look better in the flesh though and you appreciate the highlighting and contrast better.

The Cardinal and myslef are heading to Tafe next year to perfect our photography!

planning to paint mine as multi purpose WSS and imagi-nation.

cheers
Matt

Cardinal Hawkwood01 May 2012 3:06 a.m. PST

I am planning on selling mine..too much frontage for my taste..I have some more to get ready

RJBAJB18 May 2012 11:29 a.m. PST

Nicely painted. I was salivating at the prospect of plastic WSS but when I saw the photos and box art when they first came out I was instantly put off as I thought they looked far too 'toy soldier'ish but seeing yours has put them back on the to do list. Unfortunately Warlord released their Macedonians………

Cardinal Hawkwood19 May 2012 2:09 p.m. PST

Macedonian WSS? that would be fun, if a bit Turkish..
