Prompted by the news that The Editor (may he live forever) is considering making TMP a postal only service using round Robin letters (I like Robins
etc..etc) I'm curious to know how often TMPers use the postal service. Let's exclude business letters, junk mail, and parcels. So, private letter or maybe a post card – how often do you use the postal service for correspondance ? 1. Daily 2. Weekly 3. Monthly 4. Quarterly 5. Yearly 6. Never 7. I have never written a letter or postcard 8. No opinion 9. Other (please specify) 10. Fortnightly |

6. It's been at least 35 years since I sent a letter, and it was probably a postcard while on vacation. My wife sends an annual Christmas letter to distant relatives overseas. I received a postcard from my parents about 8 years ago. Other than that, I don't even know of anyone who sends private letters. Mike |

I'm part of a quality control system for the Royal Mail and so sent multiple leters packets and parcels each day. x42 |

9 – less then yearly but not never. When on vacation we get postcards and send them. Usually that is every other year or so. The etiquete (sp) that thank you cards, sympathy cards and such need to be a physical letter is going to end with this generation or the next

3. Monthly Today, I sent 3. However, as far as I remember, the last time I sent one was in January, so I answered monthly. |

Most likely once a year now, I use email all the time. |

Oh, I didn't vote – 10 fortnightly |

Dynaman8789 – I suspect you are right, I've noticed on my travels that postcards have almost disappeared from some countries (Scandinavia seems to be at the forefront of this in my experience). |

Postcards on holiday and birthday/xmas cards. I haven't written a private letter since the 1980s, excluding letters to builders, surveyors etc. |

4. Usually paying some bill for someone who hasn't got online banking. Here in New Zealand they are considering cutting postal delivery from 6 days to 3. |

2. while my wife is deployed. Yes I can and do email her almost daily as well as post pictures of kids and critters to facebook for her. I also send a card or note at least once a week and a care package every couple of weeks so that she has Real Mail to open and read for when she is not able to access the internet. I also pay several bills via the mail. |

Here in New Zealand they are considering cutting postal delivery from 6 days to 3 How's that going down generally ? Seen as a good/bad idea ? I'd expect this would encourage the more anarchic NZ residents to start a "flash mob" of posters to overload the system ! |

If you exclude business stuff, 4 (quarterly) – post-cards to my Dad, mother-in-law, etc when travelling – they love to get mail |

It's been years since I sent an honest to goodness personal letter to someone, aside from Thank You notes at Christmas, etc. |
cfielitz | 30 Apr 2012 5:27 a.m. PST |
Excluding Christmas cards, between 3 and 4. I write a lot of letters of recommendation for students. That being said, even these are becoming more and more, online. |
Ron W DuBray | 30 Apr 2012 6:04 a.m. PST |
I only use the USPS to mail boxes and My 20 Christmas cards. I haven't even use it to pay my taxes for the last 8 years. So letters would be never. |

I cannot think of the last time I sent a letter to someone. I'll go with 6. |

I'd go with option 4 since business letters don't count. Maybe there should be an option 11: "on special occasions like Christmas, etc." |

Counting b-day cards for scattered brothers, about 3 times a year, was a bit more when I had a friend overseas and sent cards. No real letter since about 1997 or 1998. |

2 or 3. Not exactly a luddite (obviously) but I do prefer to do many things the old-fashioned and more personal way. |

Could have been yesterday
could have been 80 years ago
