As usual, I have been steadily building infantry and cavalry units for the 7 Years War, and have now turned to the artillery. But I find all the guns I have are too small for Old Glory 15 figures. Christian Rogge's recent marvelous example of French guns seem impossible to duplicate in correct size from 15mm ranges!

Does anyone know of any 20mm artillery made for the 7 Years War? Perhaps such models would be more accurate for the 15mm ranges!

My only other option would be to used minifig or Freikorps gunners to go with Old Glory 15 guns!

I found the artillery from Essex a tad larger than OG15s. The wheels are larger for the 8 and 12 pdr pieces.

Cheers,

Thanks, Timurilank. I'll look into them. I like the variety of Old Glories, for "Brummers" can be represented (and French 12 pdrs much the same), and Austrian 12's as well with the long carriage, thinner barrel.

I just went through the Essex website, but see no pictures of the 7 Years War artillery. Does anyone know of any accessible through the internet, or here on TMP? It would help if foot figures were around the guns.

Eureka, Australia did make a French short 4-pounder as well as a 12-pounder, I believe. They are based on the information I provided. Never seen an image, though, but I believe they are out for sale. It is 18 mm range.

Cheers,
Christian

Thanks Jeremy. I will put Essex artillery on my purchase list for when I settle back in PA. They look like they mat make good 6-pounders, using Old Glories for 3's and 4's. Trying go move back from Texas. May drop my TNP name, "Garde de Paris" (Texas, y'all) and become "King of Prussia" (Pennsylvania, near PHiladelphia!).

Hello, Christian: I will also call on Eureka Australia to see about both the 12-pounders, and the 4. Your information and drawings of those guns is inspirational!

We do have a range of our own guns for the Seven Years War, if that helps: link

Of course it is also worth remembering that 18th century cannons were not huge:

If the gunner is 15mm, that gun is only about 10-12mm tall, and the barrel diameter is about the same as his head…

I ran into the same problem for my French where I was trying to depict heavy artillery. Battalion guns seem to be the only ones that OG and other manufacturers produce in 15/18mm. I ended up using the Essex carriages, and used some barrels from naval/garrison guns to get the effect I was looking for.

I couldn't find any pictures of them, but they were somewhere in this game. The picture shows some OG light guns.

Awesome website here that shows the relative sizes of SYW artillery. crogges7ywarmies.blogspot.com

Thanks, firstvarty – that's the illustration I meant in my initial post. The gun carriage for Old Glory Hanoverian 12-pdrs, and their gun – look very much like these, but the whole gun seems too small. Look how long those barrels are compared to the gunner! I assume he is about 5' 4" tall – probably the average for wesern Europe at that time. The profile of both guns is remarkably similar.

Wonderful picture of British and Hanoverians attacking the French! I, too, like to do French guns in red. Dark blue for Prussian; ochre for Austrian; dark red for French.

Geoff: very sturdy-looking gun carriages there. I must look into your site for more. By the way, what gun is the team firing in your photo? What nationality?

NicRobinson: That French gun looks perfect! I must get in touch with Eureka USA. The Russian guns have, in a couple cases, long carriages that might work for Austrian 12's as well.

It also looks like 36 Grenadiers de France in bearskins; and 36-42 of the tricorn troops will make a good addition to my other 18mm units. I did 48 of your Austrian German figures at Puebla (red turnbacks); and have Prussians to do 1 48-figure battalion of musketeers; fusileers; and grenadiers.
