I am looking for 28mm plastics for Spanish troops with those iconic pointy helmets.
You know the kind… Where it looks like they have a metal Mohawk… Any ideas? Thanks!

Notice that those Warlord Swedish infantry are not fully plastic. Rather they are a plastic/metal hybrid set, consisting of the plastic ECW infantry sprues with added metal bits (heads, musket rests, command figures). |

I was just thinking of plastic because I was hoping for them cheap!  Those Warlord's will do wonders. Bummer though. I really only need about a dozen of them, NOT 42! Is there anybody out there who wants to part with some?

If so, then there are quite a few manufacturers in metal, but none in plastic of which I am aware. The Old Glory Wars of Religion range suggested by McSorley would be a good bet for fairly inexpensive figures of the non-plastic variety, |

If he only needs a dozen, the Old Glory range might not be the best choice – those come in packs of 30. As for Warlord, the plastic infantry and command sprues are both available separately: link link And also the metal morions are available on their own: link |

In so many 'pirates' movies and comics Spanish soldiers in the Caribbean appear in early 18th C. uniforms but still wearing morions: I always though they would deserve a little Imagi-Nation of their own, maybe some backward sugar island having gained its independence during the WSS?

I would place the date of independence somewhat earlier, like the 1670's?? Helmets weren't fashionable for pikemen anymore during the WSS ;) |

No pikes -not the most convenient weapon in a Caribbean jungle or to board a ship, anyway. But helmets went back in fashion in the 19th C. and in universal military use during WW1: the Gobernador of an imaginary statelet may have seen their advantage 50 years before Maurice de Saxe advocated their reintroduction in the Reveries -and gave them to his Volontaires. |

For Spaniard-like types in an 'imaginative' 18th C., the Freebooter Asaltores have some potential, if other poses / types are produced. Not very 'Lace Wars' looking, but neither 'historical', and without too many 'Renaissance' details, so…

Would probably not be too difficult to give all of them a tricorne from the Wargame Factory 'Generic WSS cavalry' plastic set? They would nicely combine an obvious '18th C. tag' with archaic details generally associated in pirates stories with the Spanish. |
