I would like to show you an old W.I.P. ….. which I hope I could finish!
It's a project of a dio I want to do with the set "Wagon Train" from AIRFIX .
Here is the first part but I've begun a second part, not finished yet.
The whole project will use almost all the figures of the box, with some other from other sets and some little conversions.

That was a great set of figures. So useful for so many eras.

I have not thought about that set in probably 40 years…

Where are the other two wagons? The Wagon Train set came with three wagons from what I remember.

Whatisitgood4atwork24 Apr 2012 8:11 p.m. PST

No, as I recall there was one wagon in the basic boxed set. But I think there was a play-set with three.

I recall reading those articles many, many years ago by Terry Wise on ACW wargaming with Airfix figures, making up regiments of 20-30 figures using the bloke in this set carrying the rifle in the crook of his arm. Terry must have had massive logistics trains for his armies :)

That's the stuff of my dreams in my younger years! I remember getting most the sets but never that one, happy carefree days!!

SamSagace25 Apr 2012 2:17 p.m. PST

thanks for all the comments!
I'm happy that it gives you so many memories!
All I know about the AIRFIX "Wagon Train" is the box…with one wagon and a range of figures:

if you are interested, I have 2 or 3 boxes for sell or swap…

Boy I remember when these were .50 a box! I had hundreds of soldiers from all different time periods. Always loved the wagon train though, the guy carrying the rifle in the crook of his arm was one of my favorite figures.

Similar fond memories – fond enough to buy a box just because when I saw it in the local shop a couple of years ago. I would even go so far as to say that set – and the Tarzan set – were the seeds that led me to what I have today (WAY too many figures!).

Willtij01 May 2012 9:46 a.m. PST

There are a few of them on eBay for right around $12 USD

SamSagace01 May 2012 1:52 p.m. PST

@Willtij: not too expensive but I can sell for less!
(depends of the country for Postage Cost….)

Update: I hope I'll finish that work this month!

great memories……..as for the Tarzan set thats a blast fom the past!!

SamSagace18 May 2012 2:13 p.m. PST

@jammy: yes! there is 2 manufacturers which were the precursors of all the 1/72 figures (and other scales too!):
AIRFIX and ATLANTIC !!
We MUST honour them!
( I hope that I'll find time in the future for painting all the Wild West ATLANTIC sets…)
