There still is two Tiger tanks in France.

This one, in Normandy, is not in good state but they say it will be repaired:

Looks pretty good to me! I wish I had one in my backyard; well it'd probably be the backyard. Nice camo too.

Civilian paint job meh.

They have been promising to work on the Vimoutiers Tiger since the late 1980s, there was a huge cry to get something done to it for the 1994 50th anniversary, but it never happened.
I doubt there is not enough of it left to "repair" now. I have not seen it for about 10 years and it was in pretty bad shape then.
Realistically the best hope would be to fabricate a suspension and enough external parts to make it look right. Then maintain it.

We still love it:

Grossman, the paint scheme actually matches a photo of a Tiger belonging to the same unit (sSSPzAbt 102). However, the green has faded, so it could do with a new coat.

I don't think the state of it is too bad when you consider that it was destroyed by an internal explosion (caused deliberately by the crew), which has bulged out the deck and belly plate and split the seams.

RMD:

Thanks for that file – great to see the young folk learning important history up close and personal – as well as rendering respect and honor to the past. Also cool to see you can climb up on the tank. Most places don't let you get on them. Dean

They probably wouldn't let us if they knew… ;o)

If you liked it that much, you might like the previous year's report. It's a wondeeful cure for imsomnia: link

Yes, my cades would be VERY surprised to learn that at Cranwell they taught me that officers should never use sarcasm… You should see the very last photo caption… ;o)

I was thinking that they must have used the same paint that went onto Canadian AFVs in the 1980s! :o)

I've seen lots of ex-Soviet AFVs that have turned blue from being outside for too long.

Ooo, I wonder if Monsieur le Maire of Vimoutiers might let me and my cadets repaint it?!

That said, I don't know if I can get Humbrol 82, 86 and 160 in sufficient quantities…

The Vimoutiers Tiger is all but a badly damaged shell, patched together by a well-meaning local farmer, using scrapyard pieces, filled with concrete to keep vandals out.

But then again I've seen a badly shot up carcass dragged from a shooting range and transformed into a convincing looking early Char B (non-operation, static gate guard)

RMD – I do like that picture of your cadet at Sidney's grave in Bayeaux.

That is quite a poignant photo.

That's only because you don't know the girl… Grrr.
