For my 19th century imagi-nation I need opponents for my Wargames Foundry Crimean British army. I'd thought of the new Helion Austro-Prussian war figures, but find out these are too large. I need a range from about that era, that would be compatable with Foundry, and give a reasonable selection of troop types. Would the Perry Carlist Wars be any good? Any other suggestions? |

You might try any of these manufacturers. Their figures aren't quite as "big" as Helion and should match up with the older Foundrys that you have. askari-minis.com has plenty of Colonial type figures that can be used for the more unique units a 19th Century imagi-nation might have. castawayarts.com.au has Franco-Prussian War French and German figures for your imagi-nation's regular line troops. I have figures from both companies and like them. Both Al (Askari) and Gerry (Castaway) are great guys and very helpful. Pictures: link The second picture shows Askari Turcos and Zouaves with Old Glory Boxer Rebellion French naval infantry. The eighth pictures shows the Turcos up against a battalion of Foundry Prussian jagers. Jim |

The Battle Honours mid-19th C French, Austrian and Saxon ranges at 19th Century Miniatures/ Old Glory 15s fit nicely with the Foundry figures(both in height and heft), and are quite nice (especially the infantry and artillery). I've been painting up French and Austrians for 1859 and am very pleased with the results thus far. In my view, the Hungarian line infantry in the full dress uniform are especially good. They have excellent detail, are well proportioned, and are nicely animated. With the 30% bulk discount deal on orders over $100 USD, they also are very affordable. |

I second Battle Honors -indeed you get 40% off if you get $400 USD US worth -thats a good deal even with international shipping . I have a load of the Austrians and they are wonderful figs. Yes the Hungarians are nice but I think the Grenzers are even nicer There is a good range of French too in kepis or shako , although no cavalry. You can put together all sorts of 19th cent looking typesand a good size match to the little Foundry Crimeans. Shame they don't do Prussians!! link Have a look at Irregular Miniatures -they have an Italian Wars range in 28mm.

The B-H French are quite nice also. I especially like the Guard Grenadiers in great coat and bearskin. They can be complemented by Perry Zouaves. I am using Perry French Napoleonics for the French cavalry, as the 1859 uniforms (e.g. Guides and Hussars in colpacks) are close enough for me. |
