I am making my first attempt with Magic Wash. Using Future, what is the best ratio of Future, water and paint?
Also, after application do you always need go over it with a flat sealer?

I use 50/50 mix future and water then add paint or ink depending on the size of the container. I usually start with 10 or so drops of ink in a small jar, test it then add more if needed. If you add too much then you need to add some more future and water.

More information here link

I use it for 10mm figs and don't bother with a flat sealer.

I have a 1:4 mix of Future/water in a container. I use it for a clear coat. When dry, I mix 3 drops of black ink to 1 teaspoon of the mix for the black wash.

Going to be working on 15mm figures.

I use a 50/50 mix in a plastic paint pot and then add about 10 drops of what ever color ink. Test it on a figure or plastic card and adjust to darkness. The future makes a pretty good sealer for the figs. I hit them with dullcote after it's dried.

One of these days I'm going to have to pre mix this stuff and put it in a bottleMy drops never seem to be consistant, but roughly 1 drop acrylic paint,5-6 drops floor wax,2 drops of water and 2-3 drops of matte varnish to cut the shine down.I use a welled palette, and no matter how good I mix it,the heavier paint settles to the bottom. So depending on how dark I want my shade depends on where I pull from in the well-a lighter coat from the top, darker, dip the brush to the bottom. For my 15's I generally pull from the top.

When I tried water my impression was poor of the Wash. Sans water and it was a miracle worker. I just mixed up a new batch lst night. I use a large pickle jar and fill it half way. It'll last me about 6 months or so (I paint a LOT). Frankly, it's sorta like cooking by sight with me. I mix and test it till it looks right. A little ink goes a long way.

Thanks,

John

I also tried with water and went bad but pure is OK. You can see my first try here: link

Future Floor wax and acrylic paint, mix until it looks right. Use an unused mini to test results, dump and add more wax until you get it where you want it.
