Hello all,
Simple question: Anybody have any pics of these figures?
Heck, any pics of any of the figures in this range(other than those already on the site)like those of Italy or Montenegro?
Thanks so much
Mike

Have you seen these pics of Italian WWI infantry on the Oldgloryminiatures.com website?

Here are a few from my own collection. Sorry about the poor resolution on these images which were taken with my cell phone camera:

To offer a bit more description to my photos, it should be clear that Old Glory's Austro-Hungarian WWI figures are all sculpted in the early war M1908 uniform. This includes the field cap and attached oak leaves ('feldzeichen'). All bayonets are fixed. I actually switched out a pistol for the sword that originally came with the officer.

The Serb infantry have their trousers tucked into woolen socks and the 'opanci' moccassin-style shoes along with the 'sajkaca' cap. Like the WW1 Old Glory Russians, they all have blanket rolls and bayonets fixed. The officer (not pictured) is wearing an overcoat.

Thanks!
They look pretty good despite the blurriness. I ordered a pack of the Austrians for kicks.
As an aside, how long did the earlier uniform last? I seem to think I saw a reference about the Austrians converting to German stock/uniforms towards the end of the war, but did any of the old stock continue to be used?

The oak leaves on the cap apparently did not last much beyond the early months of the war, and by 1915, they were wearing shorter knee-length trousers and puttees. In 1916, a new (M1916) tunic was introduced in either "nettle green" or "field grey" shades. The steel helmet was also introduced at this time. The colored collar patches in regimental facing colors to simple vertical stripes as well.

The Landships website is a great place to start for learning the details of WW1 uniforms and equipment link Osprey has a two volume set on the early/late war uniforms of the Austro-Hungarian WW1 armies.

Thanks for the link.
From a quick glance I wonder if you could get away with making green stuff puttees and shaving off the shoulder boards and making tolerable later Austrians out of the Old Glory figures. What do you think?

I think it would be a lot of work, but go for it if you have the time and inclination! My own modelling skills are rather limited. I think most manufacturers assume that buyers will simply substitute late-war German figures (with steel helmets) for post-1915 Austro-Hungarians.

eptingmike02 Jun 2012 10:08 a.m. PST

I know the late war Germans would certainly be easier, but I love the look of the cap(feldmutz?). Perhaps just a head swap might work.
The main reason I am considering conversions is that I am trying to stick with Old Glory figures. I like them a lot but they are on the smallish end. The only other figures I have seen(though I admit my experience is limited in this regard)that match are Foundry and I think they are out of production.

I've also amassed a fairly large collection of Old Glory 25mm's (French, Russian, Austrian) and agree that they are on the smaller side compared to the other figures. I have thrown Battle Honours 25mm (many of which are much larger, in the 28mm-30mm range) into my Old Glory mix, and they look acceptable. If you include this range, you'll be able to fill in some of the gaps left by Old Glory's line.

Brigade Games brigadegames.com offers Austro-Hungarians in the field cap and puttees that you are looking for in multiple poses. These figures all have fixed bayonets (a definite plus in my opinion). Unfortunately, their office/NCO figures do not have the puttees.

eptingmike15 Jun 2012 2:17 p.m. PST

I was under the impression that Brigade Games figures were quite a bit larger than the Old Glory ones. Still, might be worth a gander! :)

Don196220 Jun 2012 5:08 p.m. PST

I've read other posts indicating they are a good match. Even so, I've never really had a problem fielding the slightly smaller OG 25mm's with larger 28-30mm sized Battle Honors.
