While looking for new stuff from Salute, I stumbled across the following picture on a blog link Looks like GZG has a 15mm Mecha chassis with 3 different weapon combos that will be available soon. |
cloudcaptain | 21 Apr 2012 10:32 p.m. PST |
Very cool
reminds me of a BT Thor. |
Covert Walrus | 21 Apr 2012 11:07 p.m. PST |
Gotta confess – Very cool and the new hover armour with the low profile I like. But we all know where my heart lies :) |

These mecha look awesome! Definitely going to grabbing these soon! Cheers, Kev |

I bought a set of the three different variants and they are very heavy lumps of lead. I had a chat with the guy who sculpted them and whereas I thought they had a certain 'Spartan' feel to them, his main inspiration was the 'Tomahawk'(both from Macross). I think they are pretty cool
so I bought them :) |
Wolfprophet | 22 Apr 2012 6:47 a.m. PST |
Nifty. Don't have a use for them myself
but hey, can always throw one on the Christmas list just for the hell of it. |
Only Warlock | 22 Apr 2012 7:28 a.m. PST |
Man we are in the midst of 15mm Nirvana for just about every genre. |
Dropship Horizon | 22 Apr 2012 8:04 a.m. PST |
Im not into Mechas normally but I really like the one, top left. Need to plan that into my gaming budget. Cheers Mark |
Rottenlead | 22 Apr 2012 9:09 a.m. PST |
I have some video of them – I will get it uploaded tonight. |
Insomniac | 22 Apr 2012 9:14 a.m. PST |
The mechs will be sold as the same body with a selection of weapon packs for the varieties shown
hopefully, further arm packs will be released to further expand their use. |
KatieL | 22 Apr 2012 9:24 a.m. PST |
I think those could easily be 28mm large sized power-armour as well
|
daddyslittlemen | 22 Apr 2012 9:55 a.m. PST |
The Mechas are cool, but not really to my taste. I'm frankly a bit dissapointed. Other than the Mechs there's nothing I haven't seen already. I was hoping for a faction resculpt along the lines of the NAC a couple of years ago. We were promised some other factions would be getting an update. Personally I had my hopes on the FSE. With the new focus on Tommorow's war figures from GZG the likelyhood of seeing a faction update seems to have fallen. Yeah, I think they're cool, but only 5 poses? 1 leader, 1 SAW, 1 prone, 1 kneeling and only 1 standing rifleman? In the past this would have been 3 packs with a total of 9 poses. Color me dissapointed with the lack of 15mm figures from GZG. |
Dentatus | 22 Apr 2012 10:00 a.m. PST |
I like 'em. Very thug menace. They the same size as Reaper CAV? |
CPBelt | 22 Apr 2012 11:26 a.m. PST |
They look like CAV stuff, and some of the BT clan stuff. I love the Thor and they have that look. |
Cdude93 | 22 Apr 2012 11:36 a.m. PST |
Maaaaaaan
I just keep tacking things onto my next GZG order haha |
ArmybitUK | 22 Apr 2012 12:28 p.m. PST |
The figures were named 'sample' pack More are coming. Both sets are excellent, with the Arden troops being the best. All photos Ive seen online dont do the figures any justice. Ill be buying them and I even own my own range! |

Yay! NAC casualties! Time for another order. |

How much are the mechs? 16GBP? Ouch! Like the look, not the price |
Kev1340 | 22 Apr 2012 11:19 p.m. PST |
For a metal mech I don't think £16.00 GBP is bad at all. The resin Mech from Critical Mass is £20.00 GBP Cheers, Kev |
Insomniac | 22 Apr 2012 11:30 p.m. PST |
In my opinion they are easily worth £16.00 GBP-00 as they are extremely heavy weight for 15mm and it is a nice change to have a metal mech in that size. Without the weapons that come in the arm packs (the kit is a basic body with upper arms and then weapon packs that make up the forearms/weapons and extra shoulder weapons) there are 25 individual components and the kit looks to be highly poseable
add to that the components from the different weapon packs and it runs to up to 35 pieces! Just the metal could make 6+ 28mm miniatures
but I guess that if you think it is worth the price then you'll buy it, if not you won't. Value is relative
I absolutely love the kits and am really looking forward to putting my three together (now that I have worked out where all the bits go)
£42-00 very well spent (in my humble opinion). |

Further information on the mechs:
I didn't put any scale pix together because you can see how big they are from the originator's pic at the beginning of the thread :) |
Lion in the Stars | 23 Apr 2012 7:03 a.m. PST |
Well, they're simply not what I want *aesthetically*. I think I'm going to need to buy a couple of the Crusty mecha, however! |
Space Monkey | 23 Apr 2012 8:57 a.m. PST |
These look great! I particularly like the Crustymech. Seems like they have loads of options for building/posing. I wonder how they'll stand up/look down to the 1/87 Heavy Gear I've been using in GRUNTZ. |
(Major Disaster) | 23 Apr 2012 9:11 a.m. PST |
Thanks Insomniac. That makes the price a lot more palatable. I will pick up at least one(ah hell, who am I kidding- GOTTA HAVE AT LEAST 3 ) Jon in the UK and Jon in the Colonies are killing my bank account with great "must-have" minis. |

Some scale pix (with a Grymn and a Dark Eldar):

clkeagle | 23 Apr 2012 2:58 p.m. PST |
Those are looking better by the minute. :) Perfect size for a one-man armored mech. @Insomniac – does the groin armor prohibit the legs from being posed mid-stride? It looks like the leg pieces offer that flexibility. -Chris K. |
Lion in the Stars | 23 Apr 2012 9:37 p.m. PST |
Ah, just stick a blob of GS behind the groin plate or glue the groin plate to the leading leg (instead of to the pelvis). |
Karaz123 | 23 Apr 2012 11:47 p.m. PST |
the kit allows a walking pose as far as i can see. I can understand jon went for "solid" asembly for dsplay models like this getting bumped around a lot and all that. For optimal appeal he should show one in a walking pose as well I think. when I first saw them I realy thought " what's with the leggs?" |
Insomniac | 23 Apr 2012 11:52 p.m. PST |
The groin plate has a floating joint behind it so it can be glued in a hinged up position
it will be able to be glued in a walking pose easily. The knees give a 90 degree range of movement and the foot can be positioned flat of with a 45 degree bend between the toe/heel pieces. The ONLY joint that I would be tempted to mess about with would be the one at the top of the leg. Rather than a peg and hole joint, I would have made those ball and socket to enable a bit of variation outside of the fore/aft plane
but I guess they are pegs because of the weight of the kit
I cannot stress the use of drilling/pinning enough. The weight of the kit will REALLY put stress on all those joints. |

Venusboys3????? Can I ask you WHERE you managed to find 1/87 Heavy Gear stuff? |
Mad Mecha Guy | 24 Apr 2012 8:40 a.m. PST |
Dear all mecha fans There are addition weapons and components coming for this mecha in future, when Jon get. chance to do the molding (or if they survive the molding process). The other weapons include shoulder cannon, handheld rifles, heavy weapons, melee weapons and pistols. Different design of feet (wheeled/tracked). On side note the groin plate is the bum plate, groin module should be other way around. Did toy around with two plates covering front hip joints, but decided against it did not look right at time, now thinking about it now should of done that, then would of been abld to use ball joints on hips. There are a couple other robotic mecha and an autonomous mecha tank(either tracked or wheeled modules) coming in future. There no release dates for any of these mecha or bits, depends on when Jon has the time to do the molding. So please do not bother him about these future bits. Regards |

Thanks for the updates Inso and Mad Mecha Guy, sounds like quite a range building. I think these are going to cost me dearly – can't wait to get my hands on them. Cheers, Kev |
Insomniac | 24 Apr 2012 2:18 p.m. PST |
The bum plate is staying where it is :(
my mecha is so well glued that there is no way I'd be able to turn the thing around now. When I assembled it, I thought I'd got it the wrong way around but checked the pic of the ones at Salute and they are fitted the same way around. Oh well
I guess my mecha need some armour over their groin joints ;)
|
clkeagle | 24 Apr 2012 3:42 p.m. PST |
Well, that is the last joint that you'd want to injure in the middle of a firefight
:) Great info, Mad Mecha Guy. Keep us updated as the range develops! -Chris K. |

So
here's Ninja:
With a host of other pix here: link I am tempted to call the next one Bad Kitty

Ninja looks great! Far more impressive than the static model. |
Psyckosama | 07 Jun 2012 3:21 a.m. PST |
With some work
perfect for 15mm Battletech. With some minor conversion work it would easily make a good Archer, Rifleman, or Warhammer. |
combat wombat | 07 Jun 2012 11:14 p.m. PST |
like the crusty mech the best. |
Mad4Minis | 08 Apr 2013 2:26 p.m. PST |
Thanks Insomniac for the pic with the ruler. Ive been thinking of ordering one of these. Its a bit on the smaller side, but I may grab one anyways. Any idea of GZG shipping costs to the US? |
Lion in the Stars | 08 Apr 2013 2:35 p.m. PST |
@Mad4Minis: GZG is one of the best companies in Old Blighty to do business with. Most of us swear that he has a wormhole for shipping across the Atlantic, since normal turn-around time from order placed to order received is less than a week. I've never thought his shipping prices were extortionate, either. |
daddyslittlemen | 08 Apr 2013 2:50 p.m. PST |
I've never seen those missile launchers before. Very interesting. Like Lion in the Stars I'm looking for something more Anime and less Battletechy in a Mecha. That said they are nice and I'm sure they'll do fine. |
Mad4Minis | 08 Apr 2013 4:32 p.m. PST |
Excellent, thanks for the info. Once Salute is over Ill place an order. They have a warning on their site that the convention will cause some delays as most of their stock is going to the con. |
clkeagle | 08 Apr 2013 7:36 p.m. PST |
Excellent, thanks for the info. Once Salute is over Ill place an order. They have a warning on their site that the convention will cause some delays as most of their stock is going to the con. Jon charges exact shipping. It has grown pretty expensive – especially since he only deals in metal these days. I received a vehicle-heavy GBP70 order last month, and it cost GBP20 to ship it. But it's well worth it. And yeah – when he says he'll be delayed due to Salute, he means it. Jon will sell more 15mm product that weekend than most other 15mm manufacturers will sell in a month (probably combined). Personally, I can't wait for the Salute hangover to go away. The rest of us will definitely want to get our hands on those new civilian vehicles and mecha. :) -Chris K. |
Poi000 | 09 Apr 2013 3:24 a.m. PST |
I'll be looking out for some of his other Salute releases. New Hammer's Slammers skimmer infantry have been mentioned, but I've not seen any pics yet. |
Insomniac | 09 Apr 2013 3:35 a.m. PST |
Just for information
there are industrial style mechs being released at Salute that will be able to swap arms with the mecha shown here so you will be able to convert all of the bodies with military or civilian kit very soon :) |
