If you wait to buy, until the line is complete, the company will close their doors before you remember to buy them.

If you buy figures as they become available, the company will always be in business, but they will never produce the rest of the line.

Not to go about on all fours, THAT is the law.

Wash daily from nose-tip to tail-tip; drink deeply, but never too deep;
And remember the night is for hunting, and forget not the day is for sleep.

People love toy soldiers.

Sergeant Crunch21 Apr 2012 4:26 p.m. PST

A gamer shall not harm a miniature or allow a miniature to come to harm through inaction.

(Probably horribly mis-paraphrased, but you get the point)

A freshly painted unit will run away and die.

I'm quite anal about how my miniatures are store/put away, so for me:

never put away Steve's miniatures for him. he'll just have to unpack and then repack them properly.

Caesar21 Apr 2012 5:15 p.m. PST

Have fun.

what is the first law?

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

:-)

But seriously folks, the first law of wargaming is keep gaming objectively in perspective while having fun subjectively.

For example, your favorite rules may have glaring "inaccuracies" or "flaws" due to a myriad of reasons. Accept them and enjoy the game. If others point out the errors or flaws or compromises accept them and have fun.

The worst thing you can do is get tied into knots looking foolish while denying objective reality. I'm not sure why but gamers get really defensive, angry, and irrational when discussing their favorite games. Such a lost opportunity for interesting, calm discussion.

nvdoyle21 Apr 2012 6:18 p.m. PST

Have miniatures, and play wargames with them?

Life is too short to have half ass terrain.

Is that where you want to be when Jesus comes back, using construction paper for forests and rivers?

The First Law is that as soon as I gather and begin painting an army, the WHOLE group abandons that era and takes up one in which I have nothing to play with.

platypus01au21 Apr 2012 8:46 p.m. PST

Roll dice and the winner has the initiative?

'The First Law' usually requires a FAQ and a flame-board to explain it.

Check with spouse to see if you are socially booked that day, especially before the big game.

These arent the miniatures youre looking for.

Rudi the german22 Apr 2012 2:26 a.m. PST

It is a playfull and / or simple simulation of a real / fictive combat situation ( past or future) inorder to learn the insights and instruments to survive/ reduce losses or fullfil your Combat mission.

Think about what you have just done, the next time you remove your figures from the table!

Given up for good22 Apr 2012 3:05 a.m. PST

Never roll a one

The lead pile grows quicker than you can paint it

You will always find something new even for finished units

It does not matter what size base your troops are on – the next set of rules will need different ones

Prices only go up

John D Salt22 Apr 2012 4:26 a.m. PST

Same as the first rule of life, "Try to be incredibly lucky."

All the best,

John.

corporalpat22 Apr 2012 4:40 a.m. PST

The first law usually has something to do with initiative.

GarrisonMiniatures22 Apr 2012 7:51 a.m. PST

186000 miles per second. Not just a good idea. It is the law!
