If your answer is yes, see those figures in 1/72 metal.

"Do you like Indian Armies of Napoleon Era?"

No, thank you.

Yes. Honorable East Indian Co. (HEIC) and their princely Indian foes.

Like the miniatures pictured above, the color of the period lends itself to a "different game". Anybody for an elephant siege train? Your commander on the back of an elephant…. sitting in shade of his moving umbella.

Even have some national characteristics for our group rules: Mughal & Maratha at link, HEIC at link

My HEIC army with some Indian formations: link

I have used my HEIC in an Egyptian 1801 campaign. The HEIC sent a brigade to Egypt via the Red sea route.

WR in the warren.

But of course!

The problem. as far as I can see, in gaming this subject is that Indian armies contained hordes of very colourful, but next to useless troops. They were shredded by small units of European troops or European trained sepoys. The latter period Sikhs and Afghans put up more of a fight.

Well, sort of everything.

I have read some fascinating general histories of the Mughal period and would love to build 17-18C armies for all sorts of fights.

But I hate army lists and do mainly 6mm. Most of these could be done with ancients/medaeval/colonials, with some europeans, but I guess step one is wsources for OOBs and organisations.

I have a similar problem with Napoleonic ottomans.

Glengarry,

The Mysoreans and Mahrattas were far from pushovers.

Grizzlymc, I have a bucket of info. Let me know where you wuld want to start. Any particular campaign?

Although Plassey and Clive's halo encourage this view, Arthur Wellesley's actual campaigns in the Mysore and Mahratta wars alone belie it. Indian states were willing to take up modern methods, and it was key to the future of British India that they were able to contain and eliminate the French influence and provision of military advisers and technology.

A great setting for a campaign, pitting the rival armies of Indian princes with their mixture of 'traditional' forces and European-style sepoys trained by foreign mercenaries against those of the HEIC.

Dare one suggest 'Pindaris and Plunder' for a title?

Maybe some Ottomans can be used as Indians too?
