When gaming with prehistoric cavemen (figures, that is!), which scale do you prefer? |

Now that figs are easily available: 15mm |

I agree with Sloppypainter, having just seen Acheson Creations offerings at 15mm. I would be interested to know which direction this range goes regarding other cavemen opponents (please) rather than the most likely range of reptiles, skinny big (flying) birds, hairy elephants and any other assortment of beasties that are out there! I do like their range though. Big well done from me. |

I prefer 28mm. But what is "caveman gaming", anyway? Do you pit two tribes against each other, or maybe a bunch of cavemen against some large, hairy monster? Are there rules that cover it? I like the Copplestone and Bob Murch prehistoric ranges, but have no idea how I would use them. |

Who makes 1:56 scale cavemen? |
just visiting | 13 Apr 2012 12:30 p.m. PST |
Everyone is "unarmored". Weapons are all "improvised", though some are two-handed. The winners keep the waterhole. The winners eat the beastie. The winners kill the giant predator(s), etc. Seems pretty blunt and simple to me

15mm. Umm, do you actually game with a 1:56 Woolly Mammoth? |
WarWizard | 13 Apr 2012 12:35 p.m. PST |
28mm. You do not need that many figs so bigger scale is not a problem. |
79thPA | 13 Apr 2012 12:36 p.m. PST |
I was wondering the same thing myself. There seems to be a nice selection of animials and dinos in 15mm at a reasonable price as well. With Acheson's latest releases, supplemented by a few other lines, I'm seriously leaning towards 15mm. |

. Maybe, but until someone comes out with a properly playtested army list and an Angus McBride-illustrated painting guide, I'm stuck. |
evilcartoonist | 13 Apr 2012 12:40 p.m. PST |
Had I started recently, I'd have gone 15mm with the excellent selection of beast and humans (Acheson's as well as Copplestone's recent Picts.) But I went 54mm, so I could craft my own custom tribe with ease. Like WarWizard said: Ya don't need many figures. Now to find some 54mm aurochs

We do it in 28mm and use "Broadsword Adventures" by Rattrap. Makes for fun games when the beasties come out to play! I've also used "Saurian Safari" for nice dino-hunting games that include wild tribesmen. |

Evilcartoonist--Where did you find 54mm cavemen? Several posters have said you don't need many figures. What if someone wants a lot of figs (say 60-100) plus a dozen or two animals, would you still go with 25s or would you scale down to 15s? |
Sudwind | 13 Apr 2012 12:54 p.m. PST |
How about just walking around and observing every day citizens. Plenty of cavemen still seem to be walking among us
|
thosmoss | 13 Apr 2012 1:09 p.m. PST |
So long as the shiny black monolith maintains the width / length / height ratios of 1:4:9, and is big and sings like a choir, I'm happy with most scales. |

When is that Osprey book coming out, anyways? |
Scorpio | 13 Apr 2012 1:20 p.m. PST |
And while you don't need many figs, if you want them fighting dinosaurs, you might find 15mm a kinder scale. |
GiantMonster | 13 Apr 2012 1:23 p.m. PST |
I've been planning on using the Papo cavemen for demos of the Giant Monster Rampage scenario Monstrous. I have no idea of the actual scale, but I think the figures are about 3" tall. -Ken Radioactive Press |

"Evilcartoonist--Where did you find 54mm cavemen?" I used Bronze Age Miniature's generic 54mm figures to make my own (fantasy) cavemen:

15mm for Inuit style figures rather than warmer locations for me. |
Pictors Studio | 14 Apr 2012 9:22 a.m. PST |
I was going to say 15mm but after seeing evilcartoonists stuff I might go for 54mm too. Although the animals would be easier in 15mm. |

Wow. I kept all my 28mm cavemen. There's no way I'm getting rid of those: link link link But I like the fact that you can put more Megafauna on the board with 15mm, so I'm slowly building up with 15mm. Maybe it's time we took another poll at Cavewars? groups.yahoo.com/group/cavewars Dan |

Guys, Seems like the early results from our Cave Wars poll is 70% for 28mm and 22% for 15mm, with just a few voting for 54mm, 25mm and 10mm. Dan groups.yahoo.com/group/cavewars |
