I know there are a bunch of fellow 28mm sci-fi lovin' TMP'ers out there, as well as quite a few who appreciate a good deal, so I just thought I would pass on a cool deal that I just found. Warbots. They are listed as 28mm vending machine toys:
They seem like they would do just fine based, painted, and maybe given some big weapons. I just paid only $10 USD for 100 from gumball.com. This seems like a good option for people looking for droids for big Star Wars or Terminator type games. Enjoy! |

Well, you can't beat the price! |
GreatScot72 | 13 Apr 2012 9:58 a.m. PST |
Indeed not! I think if someone wanted to go through the trouble of separating the legs from the pelvis and adding some spacers, they would look much more decent. I will probably just do the least amount of work possible. May task some as medbots or construction bots with appropriate conversions, just for some added color on the battlefield. |
Stealth1000 | 13 Apr 2012 9:59 a.m. PST |
They would work for 15mm too. |
Scorpio | 13 Apr 2012 10:06 a.m. PST |
If someone gets their hands on a few, I'd love to hear how soft the plastic is. The price is good, but how much of a headache will I have getting them painted up? |
SBminisguy | 13 Apr 2012 10:37 a.m. PST |
How big are they?? And do you have any idea what "scale" these zombies are?? link |
GreatScot72 | 13 Apr 2012 10:39 a.m. PST |
Um, 28mm? I actually wrote that in the OP. |
Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 13 Apr 2012 11:13 a.m. PST |
link link They don't say how big they are, they actually say that they fit inside 1" toy capsules so could be bigger or smaller than an inch depending how much they can be bent. I actually wrote that in the OP. I thought Von Teug was the original poster? Hmmmmmm :) |

Well, Ed, you have a point. I am transitioning back to my home town and am staying with my cousin. He introduced me to miniatures years ago, and I just started using TMP. There is only one computer in the house, and I suppose I jumped on without checking to see whether he was logged off. As for the softness of the plastic and the size of the figures, I will report back when I receive mine. |
Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 13 Apr 2012 11:48 a.m. PST |
Whew! thought I was getting senile! Please do as I am interested in them as well. |
Dentatus | 13 Apr 2012 1:09 p.m. PST |
$10 USD for a 100 is a good price, for sure. Good find. |

SBminisguys: And do you have any idea what "scale" these zombies are?? According to a company CSR, they may be a little over an inch tall each- he couldn't promise they would be, but said it's likely, since they're only available in 2" capsules, which apparently usually only occurs when an item won't fit in a 1" capsule. So, at a guess, I'd wager that they're probably the size of the Homies figures, or slightly larger- no promises, however. - Monk |

I have one of these guys and IIRC, it's a fairly bendy plastic and slightly less than an inch tall. Still, it would work great as a warbot in 15, 20 or 28mm, and I imagine that any of the plastic-specific spray paints would probably stick well (Kryon, etc). I didn't know where it came from until now. I'd be interested in buying a batch from you to mod some battletech scale mechs. Some of those fists from the first one would be just the thing to save a few miscast hunchbacks that I have, If you're willing,(or anyone else who'e going to order some) drop me a line when they come in. karl (underscore) e (underscore) paulsen athotmail . |

Will take some of these myself if anyone wants to split an order
etc. |
GreyONE | 13 Apr 2012 9:54 p.m. PST |
Do you get the capsules as well? |
thabear | 13 Apr 2012 11:50 p.m. PST |
Awwwwww they dont ship to Australia , these would have made a great source for droid soldiers for The old Republic Star Wars games.. |
Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 14 Apr 2012 8:32 a.m. PST |
The links above show them with and without the capsules. |
cloudcaptain | 14 Apr 2012 10:21 p.m. PST |
Went ahead and ordered some to use as 20mm battle droids for Star Wars :) I will be able to put 100 to work in that manner
|
GreyONE | 17 Apr 2012 11:52 a.m. PST |
Please keep us posted with info on these.. I'd love to have 200+ for a game, so knowing what sort of plastic they are made of great importance.. |
Von Teug | 17 Apr 2012 12:38 p.m. PST |
I will be sure to do so, GreyOne. They should be here tomorrow! Will post pics and a full report! By they way, until then, you folks who are interested might find this picture helpful (the penny is 19mm across):

I just got mine in today and they are very soft, but once I got them based I think they will be usable. Anyway here are a few pics I took of them next to a variety of other minis that I would be using them with. link link That said I only want the ones with gun arms, so I have a bunch with the 2 hands if anybody wants them. |
Oninotaki | 18 Apr 2012 9:09 p.m. PST |
Ok so I did some experiments and arm swaps are crazy easy with these guys, and regular super glue is working like a charm. Now that I know that arm swaps will work I can say that I have 37 spare of these robots without guns if anyone wants them. |

Well, as long as we're talking about incredibly cheap plastic figures, check these out from American Science and Surplus: 27785 FIGHTER PLANES, (96/pkg) $3.95 USD for 10 pkgs 27786 GUN PODS, (14/pkg) $3.50 USD for 10 pkgs 30860 SOLDIERS (6/pkg) $2.00 USD for 10 pkgs 30331 SPACE SHUTTLES, (24/pkg) $3.50 USD for 10 pkgs 30332 WAR BIRDS, (36/pkg) $3.50 USD for 10 pkgs "We have pieces from a Buck Rogers game called, we are told, "Buck Rogers Battle for the 25th Century." Except for the Gun Pods, which are all dark grey, the pieces are all assortments of: green, yellow, blue, purple, brown and violet. The pieces: Gunpods, Fighter Planes, War Birds and Space Shuttles. Mostly they are around 1" in the largest dimension. Note: we show the quantity pre-packed in a bag in the listing. You get ten bags for the price shown." So for instance, you would get 960 fighter planes for $4 USD! Their link: link |

Yeah, I ordered shed loads of these years ago. They also used to have infantry too with are about true 25mm carrying what looks like a Clone Wars blaster rifle. You can snip the weapons from the top of the Gunpod dome and you have a nice heavy weapon for 15mm. Thanks, John |
Bumbydad | 03 May 2012 7:55 p.m. PST |
I got gunpods. 140 gunpods is a LOT of gunpods--way more than I need. Anyone want to trade some 'bots for some pods? My address is [ bumbydad@gmail.com ] if interested
