Does any one have info pertaining to the battles of the Black Hawk War or perhaps wargaming scenarios?

The "Black Hawk War of 1832" is pretty good site to start with.

Makes me want to run a scenario game called "Black Hawk Down"

About a decade ago I researched the Black Hawk War and visited several related sites in northwestern Illinois. There's quite a bit available via the Internet. I recall providing a list of Internet references to someone around then. Perhaps a search of TMP boards would turn it up.

That said I never gamed it. Figures for the period were relatively rare (that's probably improved), especially for the involved tribes (lots of figures for F&IW, AWI, and the late 1800's, but none that I could find appropriate to this period). Old Glory put out a pack that included the main involved tribe, but none of the figures were armed with muskets whereas Black Hawk's warriors primarily were musket armed.

There was only one actual stand up battle and that involved a delaying action. The only action involving US Army troops ended the conflict and was essentially a massacre. All the other actions involved raw militia units running in mass confusion or small skirmishes that often were very one sided. There was one action involving a small fort, Apple River Fort, that lasted nearly a day, but did not involve what we would term heavy fighting. The Black Hawk War actually was a large raid by Black Hawk's forces that eventually got caught and cut up (including the women and children that traveled with the warriors).

Some of the more interesting small skirmishes occurred outside of Northwestern Illinois as several young bucks in various tribes used the conflict as an excuse to raid small settlements. Nearly all these raids contributed to a near mass hysteria that made out the Black Hawk War to be larger and more extensive than it was.

I must admit that this was a case where by the time I had researched the actual conflict, I no longer wanted to game it.

I also did some research on it, and I agree with Gamertom.
