Recently I was sent some figures by a friend of mine of some new 10mm ACW figures he was having made. I have managed to paint up a few of them and thought I would share the images with you.

I believe that the figures are due to be released in a month or two. They will be the start of a new range by Blaze Away Miniatures which will include all the normal poses you expect to find in a range along with some nice table dressing sets.

Enough chat here are the images

They look pretty good. Let me be the first to ask how do they compare in size to existing ranges?

Hi Bryan,

I will dig out some Minifig and Magister Militum figures this afternoon and do some comparision shots for you.

Andy

ajbartman09 Apr 2012 3:31 a.m. PST

They look nice. Always good to see ACW in 10. I think that size works very well for ACW.

GROSSMAN09 Apr 2012 4:26 a.m. PST

Great looking figs ditto on the size comparison. And 10mm is the best scale for ACW and Naps IMO. I painted about 3000 of them in a very short time frame.

Very nice

While my two huge ACW armies are 15mm, that reflects the fact that they are also about 20 years old – if I were doing them again, they would be 10mm

138SquadronRAF09 Apr 2012 5:10 a.m. PST

Great looking figures in that slection, I really like the artillery crews giving the correct hand jestures per the drill book.

jdeleonardis09 Apr 2012 5:19 a.m. PST

Those are really nice looking figs there! Great paint job too!

MadDrMark09 Apr 2012 6:52 a.m. PST

Thanks for sharing. I hope they are compatible in size with my Pendraken/Minifigs units. I like the sculpts. I also think that there is a need for "set dressing" figures in 10mm (are those surrendering Rebs? I'm sure I could find a use for them. Perhaps a "Broken" marker…or an objective marker in a "rescue the prisoners" scenario…) that these will help to fill.

andymac09 Apr 2012 7:55 a.m. PST

Hi Bryan,

Comparison as requested, I could only find some old Pendraken and Magister Zouaves. Hope this will help. If I can remember they size up well with Minifigs but I could not find any in my trays to compare with.

They seem pretty compatible with Pendraken. Keep in mind Pendrakens Zouaves are thin compared to the rest of their range. I look forward to getting some of these figures. Thanks for posting the photo.

MadDrMark09 Apr 2012 9:16 a.m. PST

Close enough to Pendraken for me! I look forward to a new manufacturer to check out. Thanks again for the information.

darthfozzywig09 Apr 2012 9:47 a.m. PST

They look good!

I've been using OG 10mm, so it's nice to have potential options for additional minis.

Greetings all,

This will be part of our proposed relaunch. The last mould is being made and should be with us soon. The aim was to provide a complete range from the start with the possibility to also make vignettes for those who wish to do so. We'll make the announcement on TMP when all is ready. Even though I'm biased, they are nice figures and will be priced and packaged competitively.

The best part is I will finally get my ACW armies, although they wont look as good as Andy's brushwork!….:)

Cheers
Jon

CATenWolde10 Apr 2012 2:03 a.m. PST

Nice looking line, and even though I'm on the "small 10mm" side (GHQ and Starfort) I'll definitely pick up all the command, special figures and so on, and a regiment per side just for variety. Particularly looking forward to the special figures and vignettes!

Cheers,

Christopher

Any chance these beautiful figures will be available in skirmish packs for those of who have little time and space but love to play with our figures when we get chance? If failing that, it looks like i can get 61-65 ACW rules from Ganesha!

korsun0 Supporting Member of TMP10 Apr 2012 5:09 p.m. PST

What would you class as a skirmish pack if I may ask? Do you mean smaller numbers per pack or a mini mixed arms force e.g x infantry, y mtd and z guns?

interesting idea that,

Cheers
Jon

Big Ian11 Apr 2012 12:07 p.m. PST

Hi Jon,

Mixed arms force, so you get a little of everything but enough for a good game. Tumbling dice did / or still do a similar thing, i have picked a few different packs up at Triples over the years.

Grenadiers zu Fuss13 Apr 2012 12:49 p.m. PST

Oh my! I loves my 10s and now it looks like I'll be going back to ACW. Anyone need some Essex 15s?

korsun0 Supporting Member of TMP14 Apr 2012 5:07 a.m. PST

Thanks Ian, the mixed arms certainly seems a reasonable thing to do, thanks for the input!

cheers
Jon.

Grenadiers zu Fuss14 Apr 2012 8:38 a.m. PST

ooh, any comparison shots to the new Kallistra line? Looks like everything you'd need in 10mm would be covered by all brands.

Brian

CATenWolde15 Apr 2012 3:04 a.m. PST

If these are sized to fit with Pendraken, then Kallistra will be much larger – they are really a scale to themselves.

Grenadiers zu Fuss15 Apr 2012 1:33 p.m. PST

Ah,yes. I see Kallistra's are described as big 10mm/12mm. If Blaze Away are priced like Pendraken's I'll be buying bunches! If they are priced like Eureka, forget it. I hope there will be a U.S. distributor to cut the cost of direct shipping from down-under though!

andymac16 Apr 2012 12:50 p.m. PST

Hy Guys,

I should be adding some new painted images next week including Civillians, Casulties, Stretcher bearers and some COWS. Many thanks for all the comments, keep checking back for up dates.

I do not have any Kallistra figures to compare with, I will try and get a few and do some shots.

Andy Mac

korsun0 Supporting Member of TMP17 Apr 2012 3:09 a.m. PST

Thanks for all the comments. In relation to a couple of queries;

These chaps will be well compatible with Pendraken and will be priced attractively. Like all war gamers we like big armies without breaking the bank!

Unfortunately there is no US distributor at this stage but we would like to find one……:)

Cheers
Jon

shelldrake19 Apr 2012 2:47 p.m. PST

These look great – will the figures be packed with mixed poses (i.e. some firing, some marching etc) or come in packs with the figures having the same poses?

Any hint as to how many figures will be in a pack?

I am in the market for some 10mm ACW and will hold off until the range comes out so I can compare them to different ranges.

korsun0 Supporting Member of TMP19 Apr 2012 6:24 p.m. PST

The figures will be packaged as 30 inf and 15 cmd/specialty figures per pack.
Infantry will be either a pack of marching/advancing poses or firing/skirmishing poses.
We will also do mixed arms packs as suggested by Big Ian above and the sculptor is working on the cavalry now.

Although the main packaging will be set I'm happy to muck around with contents for individual orders to suit……:).

Cheers
Jon

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet many thanks for the info :-)

EJNashIII25 Apr 2012 12:45 p.m. PST

I like that you have expanded the offerings with the civies, stretcher bearers and prisoners. Oh, page 3, the skirmish guys have forage caps, not kepis.

Big Ian26 Apr 2012 12:11 p.m. PST

Excellent news on the mixed arms pack, I will hold off ordering Starfort Models from Langton Miniatures and get some of these. When is the general release date?

andymac26 Apr 2012 12:58 p.m. PST

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay with new pictures, I will be adding painted versions of the stretcher bearers, casulty figures and civilians along with a couple of extras tomorrow evening.

Also I am putting togther a Reb unit using the mixed skirmish poses which should be ready in a few days time (I'm painting them while I wait for other jobs to dry).

Thanks for the feedback on both the figures and painting.

Apparently the first batch of moulds will be here next week. There is one other range in the works which will be ready in June and a third possibly being done in collaboration with someone else so here's hoping June should be the kick off. Of course if we manage to get the ACW going sooner I will "news" it here,

Cheers

Excellent!

Big Ian29 Apr 2012 12:18 p.m. PST

This range is getting better all the time. I can't wait to get my hands on some for some 61-65 gaming.

TheCount29 Apr 2012 12:24 p.m. PST

Very nice all round….those civilians could prove a popular set for other genres. And you weren't kidding about the cows! Good work.

Cheers, TC.

MadDrMark29 Apr 2012 1:18 p.m. PST

More cow! They look good, and I may have to swallow international shipping to get my hands on some 10mm stretcher bearers and civilians.

ciaphas30 Apr 2012 3:45 a.m. PST

hi, is there a release date yet, looking forward to getting my grubby mits on some.

madaxeman01 May 2012 1:09 p.m. PST

I've just added them to my directory of 10mm ACW manufacturers, and added in some voting buttons so they can all be rated.

What great looking figures. I was thinking of getting Kallistra but I'm going to wait and see. The detail looks great for 10mm and the dead and wounded figures are great. Looks like a promising line. Well Done.
