How well do Artizan Designs, Victory Force, and Bolt Action models (especially troops) mix? Thanks! |

Depends on what you mean by mix. If by size alone (and most people seem to only mean height), then Artizan and Bolt Action are similar in size with Victory Force close, to running a little larger (though it also depends on which Artizan and Bolt Action you mean-the sizes of the models vary between the armies-example: their French are smaller and skinnier than their new Germans). If by mix you mean style of sculpting and weapons, then they are all very different IMO. The weapon and equipment models vary a lot between the ranges (and sometimes within the range-example: Artizan German rifle model changes with the newer releases). IMO, they don't really mix. The only WWII ranges that mix well style, size, and weapon wise are Artizan and Crusader (they used to use some of the same weapon models-for example the U.S. Garand and BAR). But
tons of people mix and match with no problem. Some people are bothered by the subtle differences, others not so much. |

I mix Artizan and VF or Artizan and BAM but not all three together. |

Tigerjon, Your BAM/Warlord U.S. Airborne would mix fine with the Artizan Designs/Northstar U.S. Paras. DO NOT mix them with any other manufacturer's, including Victory Force. And the same goes for your BAM/Warlord Waffen SS. Mix them ONLY with Artizan Designs/Northstar late war Germans in smocks and NOTHING else, if you must mix at all. Trust me on this one. After all, I'm not the '28mm WW2 Fanatik' for no reason :-) |

I mix Bolt Action, Black Tree, Crusader and Artizan. The last of the Bolt Action figures (before Warlord took them over) are quite small. VSF are too big to my eyes. Interestingly Black Tree US Paras also seem quite small. I made some of the Warlord Plastic Germans but dont like the thinner weapons so am only going to use them as crews or other conversions. I can live with a few size differences as it does not really matter on the table. Otherwise I'd be limiting myself to a few ranges and poses. PS I just reread your earlier post on Warlord and think you'd better stick to the one range and not try and mix. |

I must disagree with the 28mmWW2Fanatik , I have been collecting and gaming for a very long time now, several scales, this way I can appreciate many different sculptors work, and convey different aspects to my platoons. As to 28mm I can say that my collection would not be the same if I had stick to just one all powerful manufacturer, I have several and always favor the less industrial brands.I am being bias here. On the games table this will be a plus, you will see different figures all in the same scale, with some variation but that is a plus to me as long as it is within reason: There are tall soldiers and not so tall ones
equipment also matters, I agree some brands do super thick guns and now there are those very thin ones
Dan aka Tallyhobiggles I do agree with you and I would go further in saying it might be a comercial move, that some brands do in order to have their figures smaller, closer to 25mm and thus make them differ from 28mm making it visible enough so people dont mix them with other brands
So is this just market driven? Also have you noticed helmets are not as well made as they used to be some 5-10 years ago? |

Those who don't mind mixing figures from different manufacturers should check out the frothers unite website: link |

It hugely depends on the line. Most of my collection is VFM. Germans. Size wise they do mix well with Artizan, but the style of scultping with the earlier models is so different that they are a bad match. The later Artizan Germans (the ones that were released later not late war) are almost identical in style. Bolt Action are too small. The BA minis from the Warlord tems are so cartoonish that they do not go well with anything style wise. Americans: only hve VFM there and I felt they did not go well with anything. That nbeing said I feel they are the most detailed and acurate minis anyway, so I did not care. British: I use VFM, BAM and Artizan together without any standing out. The Artizans have more of an early war look to,them though. No plastic BAMs though, so I can mot tell how they compare. Russian: I use VFM, TAG and BAM together and again they do not stand out when mixed. I stayed away from Artizan there, since I felt their style of sculpting was too different. Cheers, Burkhard |

I'll just add this to it: link but at the end of the day, it's all your own choice. Some will mix and match, others won't. My biggest gripe is always "will the equipment match"- a '98k is a '98k, no matter the size of the soldier, so if the weapons don't match, I won't mix the figures. |
