I'm experimenting with paint jobs on my Sathar ships from Star Frontiers. Here's what I came up with:

Please let me know if I should keep going in this direction or strip this casting and start over. More pics and some comments from blog readers at Super Galactic Dreadnought: link

It looks like what hippies from a previously pacifist world would use once they got sufficiently Bleeped texted off to go to war would use. grin

Hey, they're YOUR aliens! Why not?

I could buy that it's not a static paint scheme, but that the colors are always shifting… like the skin of a river trout as it swims.

Adds to the alien look.

the only thing i don't like is that blob of yellow on her chin. hit her with a nice ink wash, add a few details, and she's ready to fly.

Or of course to reduce incidence of friendly fire.

I do not like the colour scheme, but that is because I am not a green blue yellow person. They are your models – paint them how you like them.

I have always envisioned future ships having camo paint that reacts to the background, and has a mode that switches to "federation" colours for parade duty, and back into dark blue black for general deep space activity.

I quite like it, needs some washes or something tho to give it some shape. Perhaps try some pearlescent paint in similar colours to emphasise the 'colour shifting' effect?

Camo miniatures of ANY period look better with a couple of details painted crisply.

I'd try painting the 3 raised areas on the front of the nacelles black, and adding a couple of red running lights on each side of the bridge.

Quite had the same thought, as if the surface was coruscating with unnatural energies.

We fly spaceships; who wants NATURAL energies… ;->=
