This is a great new novel about the battle of Gattysburg. Cain at Gettysburg is written by Ralph Peters who under the pen name Owen Parry wrote a series of ACW mysteries about Abel Jones. Heres a review from the Armchair General. link .Another review from MHQ link Also: link |

Ralph Peters was a former US Army intel officer, and his 'Red Army' novel about the Soviet Army in WW3 is the best I've read in that genre. On the strength of that alone I am going to buy this book – the man can write! |

I'm about halfway through this book and it's certainly not at the focus level of "The Killer Angels." As I don't know the battle intimately, I'm going to have to find a map that tracks the 26th NC and 26th Wisconsin to see where they're at – there's not a lot of familiar place names mentioned beyond XI Corps' action north of the town itself. It *is* a very good book, and one I'll have to purchase. (I'm reading a public library copy at the moment.) |
