The models in all those movies were amazing to me as a young model builder. I still get a kick out of them knowing the work that goes into just building one let along making it move, fire, or light up.

A MUCH better movie than "Pearl Harbor" -- though the CGI of Battleship Row in the Pearl Harbor movies was really good. Be cool to see someone splice the best of that into Tora, Tora, Tora.

This is a GREAT film and I own a copy of it.

Did you know that the people who did the models for Tora-Tora-Tora also did the models for Sink the Bismarck.

Also most of the models for Tora-Tora-Tora were destroyed in a fire some years back,I don't know all the details.

An era of filming that is lost to history. Kids today only know CGI.

Shame…

Yes and no. There were some damned impressive miniature sets built for the LotR movies, which also used a great deal of CGI.

Actually, several of the Japanese Ship models from the movie "Tora, Tora, Tora" are at the Armed forces Military Museum here in Largo, FL. (Tampa Bay area)

I remember they had an article with pictures in one magazine at the time. It might even have been Life magazine. The models were big, like 8-12 feet long. But you get better water effects at this scale.

Didn't some of the Japanese special effects crew also do propaganda films in WW2, also using miniatures ? Keep hoping to track some down – would be great to see.
