I am considering using foamcore to build a ruined factory that I can use as part of Flames of War or 15mm WWII skirmish games. I want it to be good size – for sure bigger than the JR pieces. Does anyone have any ideas on design and dimensions (plans?) for a factory like this? Have you seen anything like this? One of the things that keeps stumping me too is how to store it when not in use. thanks |

Many photos of Stalingrad online. Check them for inspiration. link I don't have any plans, but you could make it modular. I really like the 15mm factory at Najewitz. link
You could also buy the Stalingrad-like pdf buildings from Finger & Toe and scale them down to 15mm. They are only a few dollars a building. You can mount them on foamboard using 3M Super 77 spray glue. I've done that with pdf buildings. link
Just some quick ideas. |

When I did my layout/gallery of a German city in 1945, I used three of the JR factories and an HO scale crane. Those three factories set side by side took up about 4 feet of the 5 foot width of my board. By the time I set those buildings out like a factory area they used up a lot of space. Also when I was in the process of gathering the pieces for my layout, I saw a lot of nice factory pieces in HO. I didn't use them because I decided on ruins, but there is good stuff available out there in HO. You can get an idea of the space involved by looking at pics 60 and 63 (in the last two rows of photos) of my Germany 1945 Gallery at link |

I just bought the Kvartira ruins a couple days ago, at $6 USD it's a bargain. wanted a ruined city for 15mm sci fi game in a stalingradesque setting. Nice set. Just print it at 53.5 percent (I may go a bit larger) on a decent printer and your good to go. set comes with 4 buildings, each with two exterior fronts and 2 sides, plus interiors for each. I plan on mounting on foam core, though I am trying to decide if I should cut out all the windows or not. they look nice on the pdf, but I concerned about arguments over LOS if they are not removed. was able to find some nice free jpeg drawings for streets and alleys on the net. thinking about picking up the ruined warehouse too. almost have to have one if you are doing stalingrad. |

Take a look at this album to see the kind of stuff I was/am doing with the foamcore: link Here's a pic of the factory sized buildings:

Timecast did some stuff of stalingrad for a film. It was (I think) scaled for 6mm but should give inspiration & ideas. link Phil |

These are great ideas for me to start with thank you. Please keep the ideas coming. Neal – where did you get the large paper hex map to start from? Is it a blown up scan of a Squad Leader map? Great looking project. Stan |

Neal, that's outstanding work! Are the roofs removable? Are you using 15mm to make mini stands for the SL counters? Very impressive. |

Hey guys! Sorry I didn't respond earlier! I lost track of the discussion topic! Yes, it's the ASL Red Barricades map. It's actually the VAASAL electronic image blown up to a big size. I think it is 8'x20' for the whole map, IIRC. The roofs are removable on all of the buildings. I'm using 15mm, but I plan to use it with Flames of War. I've run several games on it and it's been in one tournament so far. Thanks guys!

NealSmith, I am speechless. Stunned, in fact. What a well thought-out project. You have made up my mind! I am going to give my little "Perfection, Nevada" project a go. TMP link Dan |

Thanks Dan. :) Go for it! The more I look at these pics, the more I want to get back to this project! The first two river sections are partially done already and I NEED to add rubble and other details to what I've already done
Then there's another "row" of already cut and ready to start tiles stacked up in the corner
