I'm a :

"Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting really enjoyed it."

(I just wish I'd gone sooner, as I want to see it again on a big screen and it's starting to vanish already!)

1 There were quirks but I really enjoyed it thumbs up

Volstagg Vanir27 Mar 2012 5:13 a.m. PST

Yes – it was not that bad, and I got my moneys worth. It was ok.

elsyrsyn27 Mar 2012 5:15 a.m. PST

Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting really enjoyed it.

But also

1 There were quirks but I really enjoyed it

as the two are not mutually exclusive.

Other: I might have done had it got to my local multiplex

and/or

Other: I generally only go to see films I suspect will be good.

(I'll let you know which when appropriate)

photocrinch27 Mar 2012 5:21 a.m. PST

Don't know that I would describe it as epic and hugely exciting, but I enjoyed it and didn't feel cheated by extravagant movie prices afterwards, so I guess that is telling.

Oddball27 Mar 2012 5:25 a.m. PST

Haven't seen it, but I heard it was a good movie even if not doing well. I think it will have problems now with "Hunger Games" being released.

PapaSync27 Mar 2012 5:25 a.m. PST

I'm also a :

"Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting really enjoyed it."

Since I never read the books so I was not prejudicial and let stand on it own merits. I will say that I enjoyed more than Star Wars 1-3. I hope they continue the series. If anything I want to read the books more than ever. Not to mention I think this would make some fun gaming.

Yup – I came out of the cinema thinking :

(a) can I get to see this again ?

(b) I'm going to reread all the books !

(c) I hope they're doing the flyers as merchendising/toys as the air-to-air battles were, and I don't use this word lightly, awesome.

Major Thom27 Mar 2012 5:36 a.m. PST

Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting really enjoyed it

I thought it was better than the Hunger Games.

jdeleonardis27 Mar 2012 5:39 a.m. PST

Wow – relatively good reviews here. Thats surprising. Hunger Games is good though…

Wackmole927 Mar 2012 5:42 a.m. PST

Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting and I quite liked it

RavenscraftCybernetics27 Mar 2012 5:44 a.m. PST

I went expecting to be disappointed. I was thoroughly disappointed because the movie ROCKED!
It was sooooo much better than any other ERB book set to film.

McWong7327 Mar 2012 5:50 a.m. PST

It wasn't fault free, but it doesn't deserve half the rep it has. Good fun it was.

Lentulus27 Mar 2012 5:52 a.m. PST

Actually, Yes – it was good fun.

elsyrsyn27 Mar 2012 5:52 a.m. PST

My experience as well. I really wanted it to be good, but expected it to be awful, and was ecstatic when it was excellent.

About the only disappointments I had were that there are no associated toys to convert to gaming pieces (because Disney did a Bleeped text-poor job of promoting the film), and that there will probably not be the two sequels the producer intended because of the poor box office (which is mostly due to the Bleeped text-poor job Disney did promoting it).

Plynkes27 Mar 2012 5:55 a.m. PST

The options are stupid. The "no" options are all way too specific and even though there are six to pick from they don't remotely cover the possibilities.

I didn't go to see it but there is no option for me to pick there that is truthful.

The "yes" options are pretty dumb, too. You are forced to agree that it was epic and hugely exciting. Someone who saw it but didn't find it hugely exciting has no way to express this. You suck at making polls, unless your intention was to subtly rig the poll, in which case you are brilliant at making polls. Well done.

WarWizard27 Mar 2012 5:55 a.m. PST

No – Previews looked lame. I was very disappointed in the previews and reviews becuase I really like the original character as in the ERB books.

Tommy2027 Mar 2012 5:56 a.m. PST

No, I just wasn't that interested.

HornetsNestMinis27 Mar 2012 6:00 a.m. PST

Its really interesting to see how many positive comments people have about this film. I agree about the marketing. And removing the "of mars" from the title was a tragedy.

Is it just that we have so many "epic" films now that it takes something like Avatar to impress the critics?

Is it that The films director is a member of Pixar and the media seems to want to tear them down at the moment? (Cars 2 was much maligned as well and is not half as bad as most critics made it out to be.)

I think that this film will find new life on Bluray and DVD.

David Manley27 Mar 2012 6:00 a.m. PST

Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting really enjoyed it.

And its got me reading the books again :)

Rich Bliss27 Mar 2012 6:04 a.m. PST

The first one.

Is it on Netflix streaming yet?

Otherwise I MIGHT, notice I said might pay $0.99 USD on iTunes

Warmaster Horus27 Mar 2012 6:09 a.m. PST

Yes, I liked it. Loved the "dog". My 7 yo son would say "yes and epic" greeeat dad/son flic

Rdfraf Supporting Member of TMP27 Mar 2012 6:09 a.m. PST

I wasn't going to see it due to the bad reviews it was getting but I got talked into it and I loved it. I have no idea what the critics were talking about.

keleustes27 Mar 2012 6:19 a.m. PST

Yes I went, Hugely existing -- NO -- as bad as all the critiques say it was -- NO --

A little too long, the script needed focus and the tempo seemed to be off.

Rudysnelson27 Mar 2012 6:20 a.m. PST

No, I have not been to a theatre movie in 5 years. I have read all of the books so i will watch it when it gets on DVD.

Los45627 Mar 2012 6:23 a.m. PST

Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting and I quite liked it

My two gripes:

Not enough Thark action

Dejah Thoris was too "covered up".

Both my boys loved it.

Thomas O27 Mar 2012 6:26 a.m. PST

John the OFM27 Mar 2012 6:31 a.m. PST

I agree with Plynkes and Flintloque. My answere is:
No, I just wasn't that interested.

I refuse to listen to anyone trying to lay a guilt trip on me for not going. First off, I only ever managed to read 5 pages of one of the books. Maybe. So, I have no real investment in such a movie succeeding, unlike Lord of the Rings.
If snyone makes a "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" that looks reasonably faithful, I will be there.
I will not be shamed into going to a "scifi blockbuster" simply because it's a scifi blockbuster.

Jerrod27 Mar 2012 6:34 a.m. PST

what, with computers fed by punch-cards?

elsyrsyn27 Mar 2012 6:40 a.m. PST

If snyone makes a "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" that looks reasonably faithful, I will be there.

Me too, but if they did make such a thing, I expect we'd be there for a LONG time. I don't see how you could do anything even remotely faithful to the source text in less than 6 hours.

Not yet. Will likely wait for the DVD or cable/sattelite showing. Don't usually have time to go out to a movie lately. Busy with other stuff;gaming, other hobby or family related.

Other – I went to see it on Sunday afternoon. When I arrived, I discovered the showing had been cancelled so they could squeeze in an extra showing of "Hunger Games". Seriously.

"Yes – it was epic and hugely exciting really enjoyed it

I thought it was better than the Hunger Games."

I concur with both points.

ChicChocMtdRifles27 Mar 2012 7:19 a.m. PST

No, cause it is a Disney movie. Disney flicks aren't any good any more.

Space Monkey27 Mar 2012 7:20 a.m. PST

No – It didn't look like something I would enjoy.

It's the second one grin.

You could choose "other"

I refuse to listen to anyone trying to lay a guilt trip on me for not going

Wouldn't even try to do that, man. I think a lot of people will miss a great film due to bad reviews (like many SF films ever get a really good review !!), but that is their choice. Chill, dude.
