Ah yes, the Salute '06 Sky Galleons game. Truly amazing stuff.

I used to be a big fan of air games, but I have to admit that the size of the stands is too much of a distractor for me.

the size of the stands is too much of a distractor for me.

The stands really weren't as noticeable "in the flesh", and bear in mind that those ships are HUGE – crewed by 28mm figures!!

Yeah, if your skyship needs a camera tripod for the stand, it might be a bit big… (says the guy who's looking for ways to make 1/1200 models of Last Exile ships, merely ~20" long!)

Some real gems there, shame they aren't still doing them.

They aren't still being played? Now that makes me sad. I loved the other site, though I've not seen this piccie before.

I would have loved to have seen this in action!

Edit: Images of original perspex stands.

If I remeber right it was London Warlords?

A number of years ago now. They may still have the set up?But I haven't seen the display for a number of years.

It was one of the reasons I got into VSF,the work they put in was huge. You still find them online and even break downs of how to make some of the ships.

I've kind of gone off things recently and 4 unbuilt ships are sat in a box.But they are fun to build once you get the right core craft for them.

Those were the models that inspired me to start building 28mm Space 1889 vessels. I'm working on an HMS Aphid class right now, with plans to try the HMS Intrepid heavy cruiser in the future.

Who knows what happened to the astounding Cloudships of Mars link site? Was the content moved elsewhere?

Frank Chadwick31 Mar 2012 7:48 p.m. PST

abdul666lw, I don't know. The link was still active few months ago when I put it up on my blog as a link. I hope it's only temporarily down as it was a marvelous site. Someone from South London Wargamers tried to contact me via the blog. Unfortyunately that was in a period when a Blogger Dashboard software glitch locked me (and everyone else uning Explorer) out from replying on their own blogs. Once the problem got fixed I replied on the blog but never heard back. (They didn't leave an email link.) If anyone knows what's up I imagine lots of folks woulf like to know. It was a wonderful web page.

Amazing stuff! I'm inspired… although not sure about the stands. Might have to come up with something different.

Well, they do make clear acrylic rods… It's not impossible to make a few tripods using all clear parts, but it would take some work.

I think I will settle for smaller skyships, more in the 1/1200 scale range!
