Looking to improve the ambience of the gaming room, I though some full sized Napoleonic flags on the wall would look good. Looking for suppliers of modestly priced reproductions of a French, British, Russian, Prussian or Austrian flags, or any other smaller countries which might look good. Cheers Irponlegs 10mmnapoleonics.blogspot.com |

I've really only ever seen them at re-enator type plaes. be prepared to spend several hundred per flag for life size. How about a nice poster instead? |

Most any flag company will be glad to make them if you supply an illustration, but as Extry Crispy correctly pointed out, you'll be looking at a few hundred PER flag. Ouch! |

Depending on the quality you can expect over $1 USDK per flag. |

There was a company that sold coffee mugs and T-shirts with Nap flags on them. Do they have flags as well I wonder? Sorry, the name escapes me at the moment. |

There is another thread on here somewhere (from about 2009)asking same question. Embroidered flags will cost £800.00 GBP + a repro drum about£350. Remember the prices are 3 years old. I have seen shako plates for about £25.00 GBP Which has got me thinking
Currently thinking about figure storage. Can't find what I want, found foam trays the sizes I want, but no case. Might just have to make a wooden storage box with room for trays, rulebook, dice bag and tapes. Waxed wood with brass fittings and maybe a shako plate decoration? If I had a room then it would have to be a shako (voltigeur with big plume) and maybe a drum. |

I'd suggest the Napoleonic re-enactment groups , there are a few in Australia , i know the 95th Rifles are quite active , there arfe also French and British units , and i believe a unit of French Chasseurs. Although i have no contacts for any of them as i do medievil re-encatment we have often crossed paths and they are all a very freindly group of people Ill try to get some names of local groups and i'll post back here tonight if i find them |

What's-his-name that owned the Emperor's Headquarters in Chicago had a genuine Napoleonic Garde du Marine (?) standard for sale a few years back. Might still have it. He was only asking $20,000. USD |

Funny, but I was just looking at flags myself this evening with a similar objective in mind. Does it have to be Nap? Does £7.00 GBP a flag sound OK for 5 x 3 feet? Look for caravan flags if you are Googling, caravanners often put flags up outside their vans. midland-flags.com is one firm. Browse the site. There are some ancient/medieval flag designs there, some international flags from e.g Bavaria and Spain that would be OK in a games room, and some military flags of various eras. There are even some Oz ones! Reproducing a bona fide set of colours from a re-enactment supplier would indeed be pricey, but these guys did it recently if you need a supplier: (sorry, not in Oz) link |

Thanks for the responses. There was a thread here in 2007 – TMP link but I wanted to see if anything had changed in the five years as it wasn't very promising. I would prefer Napoleonic ones, I did see the 5 x 3 foot ones of modern flags. I found this site historylive.us that has some limited options at an ok price. it would be nice for some more choices. Some people mentioned looking at getting some custom ones made up. Any luck with that? I might have to follow it up, or settle for some other reproduction bits instead – swords, hats etc Any suggestions on some good large Napoleonic posters or Maps? I have a few walls to cover up with stuff. Cheers

auction They sell a decent range of flags that fit the period. Bargain price, even with postage. Around $10 USD per flag !!! The Bavarian flag, and the 'imperial russia' flag is a good fit for napoleonic period feel. For other ones, I just get a decent square of canvas and paint my own (French regimental flag, etc) |

A few years ago I tried to get a full-size French Napoleonic standard flag made when I was on a business trip to Cambodia. The company were going to do 20 for a very reasonable price. But then they began mucking me round, and by the time I left the country a few weeks later, they hadn't produced a thing, despite my $100 USD pre-payment. I never got the opportunity to return to Phnom Penh and follow up, so I had to flag (ha ha!) that project. ACW and AWI collectors are already well served, as you can often find large flags for them. I'm sure if someone took the bull by the horns and produced a range of relatively cheap printed flags of real Napoleonic standards, they'd make a killing amongst the gaming and military history community. |

I'm looking into doing 18th century Austrian and Prussian flags at half size which I would sell at 18thcenturypress.com I say half size because I'm not sure anybody would have the space for full size (Austrian flags are, for example 6'x 4'6")but correct me if I am wrong. |
Jomini | 20 Mar 2012 10:32 a.m. PST |
link Huge range of flags to choose from, and very cheap prices. These are made of synthetic fibers with printed on motives and not the heavy embroidered cloth historical flags were made of, which of course would make them much costlier. Still great quality for what they are. Probably best to drop them an email at info@univerversalhandel24.de for ordering outside of Germany. |

Here are two photos of the flag I have from them:
Couldn't get clear shot of the ruler, but the indicator on the left is cm and the one on the right inches, the whole flag is 150x150cm as advertised.

I have just this minute ordered one of their French Napoleonic flags to see what they are like.
They quoted 8 Euros for postage from Germany to New Zealand. They take PayPal and credit cards, so payment is easy. I'll let you know what it is like when it arrives. |

I've ordered a French and a couple of British flags to start with, only had 3 euros postage to Australia. Now to work out how to hang them well! Will post images of the redecorations when complete Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like we got to a good outcome. Hope it helps others. Ironlegs 10mmnapoleonics.blogspot.com |
